There are literally hundreds of thousands of different groups out there thinking, and focusing. Outside of China, no one has really spent much time listening to The Club of Rome. Given how successful China was, maybe others should have listened.

It is 52 years later, and the world has changed massively. We have had a massive decrease in births, not through control of the population, but by giving people control over their own life. Global poverty has decreased by amounts not even dreamed of 30 years ago.

If anything, births are too low right now. I am not particularly worried. These things have a way of correcting themselves. We need to keep pushing education for women, and easy access to birth control. Beyond that, I am happy for people to make their own decisions.

The world is definitely overpopulated. We are running out of easily accessible fresh water, most of which is used for food production. Many rivers are so tapped out they no longer reach the sea. Huge lakes have all but dried up. Glaciers which supply rivers have shrunk. There is no way the world population could double again without causing major issues.

This situation is not going to correct itself.

Some parts of the world definitely are running out of easily accessible fresh water. But the wealthier areas are able to make their own fresh water from salt water. The great problem with solar power is that it only works during the day, but fresh water created during the day can be easily stored for when there is no sunshine. Israel and Cyprus are proving this.

Europe, Eastern USA, and many other places have no shortage of fresh water, or rather little shortage. I suppose there are always droughts from time to time.

If you are poor in this world, you are screwed... But hopefully fewer people are poor over time.
