Why isn't Trump getting Dixie Chicked?

Why are you making this about me and some poster named Yurt?

Since you agree with me that people have changed their minds about the Iraq war, my opinion on it at the time is not relevant to any discussion here.

Zing!

Trying to silence an opponent through intimidation is the antithesis of free speech.

I'm all for opponents promoting a marketplace of ideas, and offering better opinions, and trying to counter an opinion they don't agree with by persuading people with better arguments. That's not what we're talking about here.

I think you know that. But if you don't, you're pretty dumb.

Again you fucking moron... They are not silencing them. They are voicing their own opinions.

Free speech does not mean you can say whatever you want without consequence. You see, other people get to express their opinion on what you said.

Nothing the boycott did 'silenced' the dixie chicks. I have already shown you where the dixie chicks had other national media outlets where they responded to the boycott.
Your 'marketplace of ideas' is fucking comical. You keep pretending that the two sides had equal access to the media. One side was 'celebrities' that had access to national media outlets. The other was just the average American who doesn't have such access. That said... what exactly did the Ditzie Chicks 'add'???

I know you are too ignorant to comprehend the above as you have ignored it and run away from it time and again by shifting your goal posts.

The intent was clear... 'we disagree with your political positions, thus we aren't going to listen to your music anymore'

There was NOTHING they could do to 'silence' them. That is simply the bullshit the left continually tosses out when someone they agree with gets boycotted.

Did you say the same thing about Chik-Fila's owner? Was the left trying to silence and intimidate him?

and no moron... it isn't denial. It is freedom of speech. You seem to think it only goes one way.

Let's not forget a certain Basketball Team owner!! :eek2:

Sure thing. Which is exactly why "Dixie Chicked" is now a well-known expression for intimidation & chilling free speech.

Keep your head in the sand.

Dixie Chicked

When you talk bad about the President on foreign shores during a time of war making everyone think that you are Anti-American and unpatriotic.

When freedom loving Americans choose not to listen to their music their fame rapidly declined after a brief rebound spell when liberals tried to make a point by driving to the CD store and buying their music but not listening to it, leading to stacks of unused CD's and increasing their carbon footprint in doing so. Irony.

Many ignorant people thought that only rednecks listened to their music initially but far from it.

"Hey, that new singer spoke out against my president"

"That's okay, he can be Dixie Chicked... that is what freedom is all about... since I do not agree with what was said, I have the right to stop listening and buying that music"

Nothing in there about "intimidation & chilling free speech"; but then, I don't speak "liberal". :palm:

You guys are pretty unreal.

Like I said before - if you think what happened to the Dixie Chicks had no negative effect on the artistic community and entertainment industry, I really don't know what to tell you. It's like you slept through the last 13 years or so.

This election has really highlighted the sheer # of people in America who don't seem to be able to think rationally. I'll just throw you both in that group.

This is all just so much BS. What about Hannity, Ingraham, Limbaugh et al.? Who are these "average citizens" you're talking about?

As far as what they added, here you go: voices to the anti-war movement. The admin, all of talk radio & the right in general sought to diminish & marginalize these voices. As I keep saying, all they wanted to do was shut these people up.

And guess what? The anti-war movement turned out to be right. On everything. Maybe you fools should have listened and been more open to their POV.

I love to watch society grow to a place where we as a whole can accept the truth about GWB.

Does that place have room for the Truth about what Clinton was saying, prior to Bush being elected, and/or the number of Democrats that also were of the same mindset??

ROFLMAO... You are such a fucking moron. I think they have a valid opinion. But in YOUR WORDS, they were not adding to the 'marketplace of ideas'... the idea that 'the war is bad' was already out there. It was YOU that dismissed the opinions of those that chose to boycott the ditzie chicks as not valid or 'adding to the marketplace'.

Fucking pure irony in that you did the very thing you accuse me of.

I never stated their opinion was invalid you spinning little hack.

Was refusing to bake a cake, an expression that should have also been respected; because liberals sure had a heart attack over it?

You mean like owners of Basketball teams??

You could always support your opinion of what you believe to have occurred, by showing examples and providing quotes and links. :dunno:

Oh, so your angst only extends to things about the Dixie Tricks. :good4u:

Not at all. I didn't support at all what happened w/ that cake baker, and I've been outspoken against boycotts regarding both the left & right. So, you're statement is wrong on every level.

But the basketball owner & what happened to him? Man o' straw.

So you're not aware of an owner who was forced to sell his team, due to his spoken word!!

AGAIN... making the 'artistic community and entertainment industry' aware of something that is common sense is hardly 'chilling' etc...

No one silenced anyone. But the boycott is a reminder that you don't get to say whatever you feel like and be free of consequences. That is common sense. If they were unaware of this, then they are every bit as moronic as you.
