Why isn't Trump getting Dixie Chicked?

Pretty vast generalization.

I can't be any more clear about it: I do not support those kinds of boycotts, on the right or left. But if a private organization decides that one of their public voices doesn't speak for them anymore, of course they have a right to terminate.

I hope you understand that. I doubt you do.

But country music listeners don't have the right to 'terminate' listening to Dixie Chicks and radio stations which feel the Dixie Chicks don't speak for them anymore don't have a right to 'terminate' playing their music? Right?

I really don't understand how you cannot see the similarity here or that you can't see why the pundits were fired.

I love to watch society grow to a place where we as a whole can accept the truth about GWB.

What does that have to do with the Dixie Chick boycott? And thanks for admitting you don't know my stance.

Why not just answer the question? It's pretty simple.

If I have deduced your stance incorrectly, then I apologize. Why not clear things up & let us know how you stood on invading Iraq in '03?

Again, I have never said they don't have a "right" to do so. I just think it's antithesis to the spirit of free speech.

You don't think their opinion is valid, because you don't agree with it.

I mean - do we need to know anything else at all regarding how you feel about free speech?

That was perfect, SF.

ROFLMAO... You are such a fucking moron. I think they have a valid opinion. But in YOUR WORDS, they were not adding to the 'marketplace of ideas'... the idea that 'the war is bad' was already out there. It was YOU that dismissed the opinions of those that chose to boycott the ditzie chicks as not valid or 'adding to the marketplace'.

Fucking pure irony in that you did the very thing you accuse me of.

I never stated their opinion was invalid you spinning little hack.

So free speech by an opponent is the 'antithesis of free speech'???

How fucking retarded are you Desh? I mean thing...

Their voice is being issued in the manner that they can have an effect. They don't get to be on TV or sing nasty songs about their opponents.

Trying to silence an opponent through intimidation is the antithesis of free speech.

I'm all for opponents promoting a marketplace of ideas, and offering better opinions, and trying to counter an opinion they don't agree with by persuading people with better arguments. That's not what we're talking about here.

I think you know that. But if you don't, you're pretty dumb.

It's a much different party then 2006. Well, in some ways it is.

I said at the time, when some of my classmates (and professors) asked me what I thought about the mid-term elections, that the GOP deserved what it got for all of the scandals involving Foley, DeLay, etc., and the general incompetence of Hastert which allowed much of the House-related scandals to occur. I added that I hoped the party would learn from its heavy losses and reform itself. Of course, I didn't mean nominate a clown like Trump for the presidency a decade later, but I do like hearing Trump attack Bush and the Iraq War, much as I enjoyed hearing Ron Paul do it in 2008 and 2012.

How I stood on invading Iraq has zero to do with the Dixie Chick controversy. You made an emotional assumption about my stance because you seem to be very partisan. I could have been totally against the Iraq war and support those who boycotted the Dixie Chicks or vice versa.

My stance with this is that I do not generally approve of boycotts as they tend to harm the economy, especially with big businesses who hire many employees. However, I support their right to do so. And, if you look at many boycotts by liberals it has many times changed the course of thinking for some big busineses and in turn created national discourse over the issue, which is a good thing in my opinion. If you are a public figure, you get less privacy than a private person. Here, the Dixie Chicks made a very public comment, overseas, at a time of fever pitch patriotism, before the war started.

To compare the country's mood about Iraq, the country's feeling of patriotism to that time period is simply a false analogy. Many republicans, moderates etc, now see the war was a big mistake. When no WMD's were found, that changed the mood in this country drastically. For you to ignore that is simply foolishness.

This is kind of interesting. You can't even say how you stood on the invasion of Iraq.

Foolishness was invading. I knew that at the time - a lot of lefties did.

Odd... because you also said silenced. Are you spinning away from that now?

They also weren't 'afraid to'... they were all over the news after that, speaking about it. Again, the left wants to use the word 'chilled'... when in reality it means they realized that free speech works both ways and it doesn't mean you are free to say whatever you want without consequence. Because OTHER people ALSO have the RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH.

They got death threats for speaking out, I suppose you support that sort of FREE SPEECH.

Country Music Star Pulls Out of Tim McGraw’s Anti-Gun Concert, As Fan Outrage Grows

/snip

The big question now is, with his pro-gun fans slamming McGraw relentlessly, and his iTunes and ticket sales waning, how long will he continue to insult his fan base, by endorsing this blue state gun-grabbing group?

Well this doesn't do Thing's theory any good.

I don't have a "theory." Everything I've said is factual (including, most likely, your position on invading Iraq since you continue to sprint from that).

Why are you derailing your own thread? You completely ignored everything I said about the Dixie Chicks and remain stubbornly insistent I must state my stance, when you can't even explain what it has to do with your thread.

You obviously realize you're flailing, so you move the goal posts and try to change the topic to my stance on Iraq. LMFAO.

Winning!
