Uh, yeah, totalitarianism is defined by its adherence to radical ideology and collectivism. Authoritarianism is more likely to be built upon a self-interested power/elite that is not motivated by ideology or collectivism.

Marxism is totalitarian while the Saudi monarchy is authoritarian.

By trying to pick favorites, you weaken society by placing the stronger concept beneath the superior one. Also, this is America. At least allow Europe to be the testing ground for collectivist activism. I'd rather see them get killed-off whenever the experimentation goes awry.

When has individualism ever led to a reign of terror, holocaust, killing fields, cultural/Bolshitvik/etc revolution, or a North Korea? One is clearly more dangerous than the other, as well as less conducive to the principles of Western liberalism.

Mass murder and Fascism are often what happens when people no longer care about society as a whole.
When you scroll around here and see Trumpsters saying "Make Liberals Cry Again," you know we're getting closer to Fascism. These people no longer care about Americans as a society.

Now to be fair, collectivism can cause this too. When people care about the collective but see the individual as nothing more than an atom, it's easier for a government to kill people under the guise of just eliminating the bad atoms.
This is why we need to have a balance of individualism and collectivism. That's why I support Social Democracy.
