That really sums it up for this thread & some of the responses. This sort of wishy washy, well sure Putin's bad, but it's not like Zelensky is some saint.

I mean, my goodness. What we're witnessing right now is right up there w/ Stalin, Hitler & Pol Pot. Zelensky bans some parties with TIES TO THE COUNTRY THAT IS BLOWING UP UKRAINE CITIES, and somehow that makes him a dictator a la Putin.

It's Putin apologism. Many conservatives are on the wrong side of history w/ this one.

A conservative who has spent the last five years running cover for Putin, making excuses for him, or outright demanding the United States beg him to become our ally, is going to find it hard to flip flop on a dime and recognize they had been admiring a War Criminal.

1) you cannot be so naive as to believe that there is little chance that this 'suspension' will not be held over even if Ukraine some how survives the war in it's present form.

2) and as T.A. Gardner showed in post #137 - several of the parties in question have NOTHING to do with Russia.
And at least a few are anti-Russian.

What if Trump was still POTUS?
And he declared national Martial Law during the BLM riots?
Or during the Covid-19 paranoia.
Or if America and China were militarily fighting over the Spratly Islands/Taiwan?
And he had 'suspended' all political activities of the Democratic Party because of their 'affiliation with BLM/China/whatever' until Martial Law was lifted?
The left would explode in a nuclear outcry of rage and anger.
So would I.

We have no clue if the suspension will stand after the war. We have to wait and see.

I am aware of that. Zelensky's country is being destroyed with no 100% functional government so the "suspension" has no impact except possibly pushing some Ukranians towards Russia.

That's a straw man. A better comparison would be this: If China invades any part of the USA and it's territories, would you be concerned about the pro-China/Xi/CCP groups in the USA?

I already told you...T.A. Gardner showed that several of the political parties 'suspended' have NO affiliation with Russia or are 'anti-Russian' apparently.

And I would be against the banning of ANY political party for ANY reason (unless they were the 'Murder Everyone Party' or the 'Rape All Women' party or something like that).

So clearly, you have little/no problem with it.

Whereas, if you truly embraced democracy, IMO, you would have a HUGE problem with it.

Clearly, you feel democracy is something that only is necessary when it is convenient for the ruling party.
Whereas I feel that during wartime is perhaps THE BEST time for democracy.
When a country's very existence is at stake?
The feelings of the voters is NEVER more important.
Yet you obviously feel their wishes should/can be excluded during such a time.

UK government exists.
He's doing what all Uk politiicans do- go after the opposition by hook or by crook
Zelenski did the same thing a year ago with the Poroshenko indictment - way before the war-
and banned/consolidated opposition papers/TV stations

The country is corrupt,
the governemnt has a history of trying to destroy/marginalize opposition when they have power
The Euromaidan was the same thing

It doesn't justify the Russian invasion, but stop this BS about "supporting democracy"

My mind isn't closed on this. As I have stated, they are at war. And as I have shown you, they are free to move around and express their views, helping Ukrainians. So where is the ban?

If you recall, here in the USA we had Japanese interment camps. Now that was a blatant violation of the Constitution and anti-democracy.
