A Canton man was shot in the face Wednesday night and his younger brother arrested.

But investigators don’t know which brother had the gun at the time of the shooting and they can’t say if it was intentional.

Still, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies charged Mr. Christopher Scott Coker, 37, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless conduct, Lt. Howard Baker said.

His brother Mr. Jeff Coker, 42, was in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center, Lt. Baker said.

A 26-year-old man allegedly put a gun to his head Sunday night and pulled the trigger, thinking the weapon’s safety was on, police said.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the back apartment of a duplex at 3110 Lefferson Road to reports of a man shot in the head.

Officers found Nathan Grasa, who died from his injuries, bleeding from the head, said Lt. Walter Scott Reeve.

Reeve said Grasa’s live-in girlfriend, his 4-year-old daughter, and another woman were in the apartment.

Detectives are still investigating the incident, but the shooting appears to be accidental, according to preliminary reports.

“It looks like when he starts drinking, he gets a gun out and tries to scare them,” Reeve said.

Grasa was arrested February for inducing panic in a similar manner, police records show.

On Sunday, Reeve said the rifle’s safety was not on when Grasa reportedly put it up to his head and pulled the trigger.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy.

A 35-year-old woman died after an apparent accidental shooting Sunday at a home on Shelter Drive, according to Port St. Lucie police and St. Lucie County Fire District officials on Monday.

Elizabeth Moorehead died following the incident in the 2100 block of Southeast Shelter Drive, said Officer Tom Nichols, police spokesman.

Fire District crews about 5:45 p.m. Sunday went to the home, and took the woman to a local hospital in critical condition, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

Nichols said Moorehead died.

Nichols said Moorehead's husband was going out, and didn't want to take his .38 caliber derringer with him. He gave the derringer to his wife. The gun was in a blue reusable canvas shopping bag. Moorehead came in the home with the bag and was in the kitchen with her daughter.

Moorehead had her back to her daughter and as she looked for the derringer in the bag, the gun "was accidentally discharged," Nichols said.

The bullet struck Moorehead...

Friends and family are struggling to cope with the double tragedy of two friends’ deaths — an accidental hunting death that prompted the shooter’s sudden suicide in the woods at a Readsboro camp Saturday afternoon.

Vermont state police say Benjamin I. Birch, 39, and Timothy A. Bolognani, 49, both of Readsboro, died of gunshots while hunting in woods off Howe Pond Road around 12:15 p.m., in what police said was an accidental shooting followed by a suicide.

Police said Birch and Bolognani, joined by friend Mark Colford, were chasing a deer that Birch had shot when Bolognani fired his gun.

Colford and Bolognani heard Birch shout out and found his body on the ground, police said.

A “distraught Bolognani used his rifle to take his own life,” according to a police statement.

A family friend says the couple has four children under the age of 12, including an infant.

When a Spotsylania County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on scene minutes after the shooting, the man's wife and others in the Giant parking lot were trying to revive the man.

Osage County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accidental shooting that killed a Skiatook man...

Osage County sheriffs' investigators say 56-year-old David Reed was working on a tractor with relatives when he was shot on his left side.

"His nephew was there approximately three feet from him when he went down," said Lou Ann Brown, Osage County Undersheriff.

Brown says the stray bullet that killed Reed was fired from a nearby field.

Two men in their early 20s were across a creek shooting at paper targets.

"They had four firearms there with them; they were actually shooting two of them. One of them is a pistol, one is a rifle," Brown said.

The men told deputies they were unaware of anyone nearby and didn't see the others working because of the tree line.
