Lincoln police rushed to the scene of a fight involving several people.

However, the fight ended while officers were on their way when someone involved in the brawl pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Thankfully, no one was hit.

The suspected gunman left the scene and was arrested nearby.

Police say his weapon, a .380 handgun, was defaced.

It was stolen from a vehicle in July 2009...

Another soldier shoots it out with authorities

Six police officers were shot, one of them fatally, when a gunman said to be an Iraq war veteran opened fire on them as they served a drug-related search warrant, authorities said on Thursday.

The suspect shot at the officers late Wednesday evening as they approached the home in a quiet residential neighborhood of Ogden, one hour north of Salt Lake City, Ogden police Lieutenant Danielle Croyle said.

Local drug task force agent Jared Francom was pronounced dead on Thursday, Croyle said. The five wounded officers were being treated at McKay-Dee hospital in Ogden.

"We have lost a brother. We will grieve this loss, he will be sorely missed," said Weber County Sheriff Terry Thompson.

Stewart is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries suffered when the officers returned fire, and is under guard at a hospital, authorities said.

He has a limited criminal history, Ogden police chief Wayne Tarwater told reporters at a press conference...

The shooting occurred after a "knock and announce" search warrant based on "drug activity" by the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Task Force, said Tarwater, who was visibly shaken while speaking to reporters on Thursday.

until the cops can start crying over the innocents they have killed in wrong door drug raids, i'm not gonna be that upset. the guy was not a violent criminal nor did he have a violent criminal record. he was apparently a medical marijuana user, who apparently was a damn fine shooter. and naturally the chicagotribune has to spin this to make it sound like the officers were the ones ambushed. every article i've read has the officers knocking as they entered and were then fired upon.

Some might call it a case of swift Oklahoma justice for at least one of two intruders -- both reportedly high on prescription drugs -- who tried to break into a young widow's home on New Year's Eve.

Sarah McKinley, 18, calmly used a shotgun to shoot and kill one of the men when he forced his way through the front door of her mobile home and past a sofa she had used to barricade it.

Now, the second man is facing first-degree murder charges, and McKinley is being hailed as a hero for doing what she believed she had to do to protect herself and her 3-month-old son, Justin.

A man is dead from a bullet wound after allegedly shooting at police officers in a Wentzville hotel.

Mark C. Curl, 54, died Thursday morning in a room at Economy Inn, 1400 Continental Drive.

Curl lived near the hotel in a house on the 1400 block of Plaza Place in Wentzville.

Capt. Kevin Pyatt of the Wentzville Police Department said it was not clear whether Curl died from a self-inflicted wound or from gunfire returned by police.

The medical examiner would make that determination, he said.

The crime scene was under joint investigation Thursday by Wentzville police and the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department.
