Atheists: a 5 year old is on her deathbed....

He *is* sad, and obsessed with me as well. I have no idea where he got the idea that I am a Wiccan; I am not. But it sounds like a great insult to call someone a Wiccan, doesn't it?

To ignorant magical thinkers anything but their brand of magic is perceived as evil.
The insult is born out of childish fear.

Like someone else said, a 5 y/o on her death bed might not want to know about 'science'.

Like ... let's say you ask your husband: "Do these pants make my ass look fat?"
You, I'm just guessing here, my not want to hear the 'science' ? :(

No, if it's the case, the correct answer to that is your ass makes you ass look fat.

As an atheist, you'll get your answer some day. You won't like it but you'll have it. Whether you care is up to you. That you won't be able to do anything about it isn't.

You have absolutely no idea whether that is true or not. Just pulling your belief about it out of your ass.

If, as you claim, God doesn't exist, why do you spend so much time addressing those that believe? Fear of the unknown? In the back of your mind you're worried that you've made the wrong decision?

I'm not dumb enough to believe in magical beings and places.
That would be you, friend.

Hell sport you are icapable of walking and chewing gum at the sametime let alone even simple sarcasm. But I am sure many others here have told you the same thing.

Exactly. "Nothing physical can create itself, so God created the universe." Who created God? *crickets*

Meaningless nonproductive pointless arguments are their specialty.
It makes them feel their supernatural magic is the only answer.
The root of it all is a fear of the finality of their own death.
Most are not adult enough in their thinking to even entertain the concept for an instant, so they retreat to their childhood solutions of soothing magical explanations.

My husband has been an atheist since he was a kid. This is exactly what he says when I've asked him "Why do you think that people cling to ___ and ___ [religious beliefs] in the face of absolutely no proof?".

That being said, I am not an atheist myself, nor am I a theist.

It seems some here are "incapable" of using spellcheck.
That was sarcasm, in case you didn't notice.

You don't like me because I shoot down your hedge bet .
You say, you don't do believing.
You sure sound like a magical thinker to me.

I don't care what I sound like to you...because you are an unethical poster.

How can, "I do not know the true nature of the REALITY of existence"...sound like a hedge bet? How can it sound like "believing?" How can it sound like "magical thinking"...to anyone but an idiot?

How do you know how much I personally spend addressing this issue? I spend almost no time thinking about something which I see no evidence for or else I wouldn't be an atheist, I would be a believer. However, I do like to join conversations about it from time to time because they are, if nothing else, entertaining.

It is the underlying impelling reason for all religion with very few exceptions.
It illustrates a major flaw in human development.
We have the intellect to imagine the finality of our own demise but do not have the sophistication to overcome our survival instinct and accept it.
Solution? Magical thinking and childish promises of everlasting life.
Ergo, religion.

Why is that?

I acknowledge when I do not know the things I do not know.

Sorry you cannot do that.

You won't acknowledge that you hang on to the chance that there is a heaven with your " I can't know for sure" hedge.
You say you don't do believing yet you can't let it go.
You still believe without admitting it.
Your anger about it reveals much.

You use the word "heaven". You still want to believe but can't admit it.
The ire you toss my way is generated from within as you disappoint your own intellect.
I understand.
I have experienced it from others before.
I won't take it personally.
