Well, my father was an Angican clergyman, a socialist close to the communist party, my mother an atheist with conservative leanings. Both saw no future in this country of ours and didn't even teach me the language, which I've had to learn for myself, after a fashion. I don't think I'm much inclined to repeat what I learned as a child, except to be entirely sceptical of all authority and contemptuous of human self-importance. When I was thirteen we moved back two hundred years from this bolshie valley to English Shropshire, which certainly taught me what to think of English tories - so all in all I can't see that I bear out your statement very well!
