College football starts in 7 weeks!!

I live in Ohio, not to far from Columbus,it's bigtime OSU country around here.
But I still have trouble being a fan, because growing up,that asshole Woody Hayes wouldn't pass the fucking ball!

I'm glad you picked something that matters to make you judgment.

I'm glad you picked something that matters to make you judgment.

So many times OSU had great players, and pound the ball all season. Then go to the Rose Bowl, and have to play a team that could run and throw.
They would stack the line, knowing OSU wouldn't/couldn't throw.
OSU would fall behind and couldn't throw to catch up!

A quick look at Alabama's schedule doesn't show any real challenges until about 2/3 through the season. It's not hard to maintain a ranking when you don't play anyone with a real chance of beating you.

We play all the teams in the western division of the SEC. This Saturday we play a team that gave Clemson all they wanted and only lost by 2 points. 2 teams that are ranked in the top 10 are on our schedule for Nov. Then the SEC Championship, which will likely be Georgia.

Hurts was the next big thing. All that talk during his freshman year only to be tossed aside.

The only potential competition Alabama will face will be this Saturday with Texas A&M. After that, it's perennial powerhouse Louisiana, then Arkansas who got their asses kicked by North Texas, then Missouri who despite being 3-0 has played another perennial powerhouse in UT Martin, Wyoming who barely beat IAA Wofford, and 0-3 Purdue. Tennessee, while 2-1, lost to WVU, the only real competition they had. It will be game 9 before they play LSU. By that time, LSU will have played Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi State. Who knows whether they'll be considered worthy competition.

Hurts won the starting position by beating out the competition. And he led the team to 2 national championships. His only real short-coming is his inability to throw the long ball consistently. Tua can do what Hurts does and throw the long ball. The two competed for the position and Tua is the better player.

It would be different if they actually played a competitive team before the rankings came out. It's easy to hold a spot when who you're playing is more like spring practice than a real game.

Let's take a look at Clemson, too. They were beaten by Texas AM except on the scoreboard and, in the end, that's what matters. However, looking at their schedule, they may not play a top 25 team all season being that AM was not ranked at the time they played.

Part of the difficulty is that the scheduling is 2 or 3 years out. Louisville finished 9-4 2 years ago.

Yes, Alabama schedules some cupcakes. But we have, with the exception of 2010 & 2011, consistently scheduled big name programs for the opening game. And in 2010 and 2011 we scheduled Penn State as the second game. We have started our seasons with Louisville, Florida State, USC, Wisconsin, WVA, VATech, Michigan, and Clemson. Hardly opening day cupcakes.

Which means you don't play anyone that is a worthwhile team until 2/3 of the way through the season and they may not be in the top 10 by then.

So the next big thing was the next big flop. Got it.

Louisville had a different makeup two years ago. Do those wins plays any role in the number they'll have this year? Since the answer is no, using that as part of your argument is meaningless.

Some cupcakes? Looking at the schedule, four of twelve are cupcakes.

They may and they may not. But our schedule is more loaded with tough teams at the latter part than at the beginning, that is true. And a loss late in the season will have a far greater detrimental effect than a loss early.

All the teams that every team plays have a different makeup than when they were scheduled. Usually having a good season helps recruiting.

Arkansas State, Louisiana and The Citadel are cupcakes. Who is the 4th? (that would have been known to be a cupcake when the schedule was written)

And, since you used Ohio State as a way to schedule, they have Oregon State, Rutgers and Tulane in the first half of their season. Not exactly powerhouses. Every team has cupcakes. Some years a team has a brutal schedule and some years it is not as brutal. That is largely about whether most of the teams on their schedule recruit and build.

No one denies the potential of playing higher ranked teams toward the end. It's easier to maintain a higher ranking when the early competition isn't tough. If you play tougher teams early and lose, your ability to catch up is harder. As for a loss having a far greater detrimental effect later in the season, Alabama losing to Auburn in week TWELVE didn't make a difference.

25-2 as a starter is not a flop. Getting us to TWO national championship games is not a flop.

But you play the best player.

When you're the next big thing and "Mr. Clutch", it is. Looks like the clutch stripped out.

Us? What fucking number are you in the program?

Apparently it didn't help Louisville but it gives you another excuse.

Louisville is the 4th. They're picked 5th in their division. Arkansas could be considered a cupcake based on how they're playing. I see you define cupcake based on the past not what actually exists at the time. If I mix batter, pour it in the wax paper holders, and put it in a cupcake pan does it suddenly not become a cupcake because I say it isn't?

Ohio St. had a top 25 team in their first three games. Can you say that about Alabama?

It made a difference. If auburn had only 1 loss they would have made the playoffs.

And Bama’s opening game has been tougher than most over the last 10 or 12 years.

No, it is not. He is still as good as he was, if not better. But Tua is better so he starts.
