College football starts in 7 weeks!!

Reports are that she was encouraged to not press charges by people close to Meyer and Smith since it would cause him to lose his job and harm her since she wasn’t working and not divorced at the time. She also sent pictures of bruises to coaches wives. Meyer and Smith have a long working relationship and Smith’s grandfather was Meyers mentor. Meyer and his wife even helped Smith and his wife years back for similar abuse. Are you sure you are not letting your passions for your school and community cloud your judgement?

That’s all beside the point anyway though. What has Meyer in trouble is despite all of the facts coming out about it he lied about knowledge of it at the Big 10 media week which is what has him in trouble since he clearly knew. The known evidence to this point leans heavily that he knew. So why lie?
If that is true and there is documentary evidence to that fact then yes...his ass needs to be fired.

Do they mention that no charges were ever filed?
Here we go with texts and stories that are years old....coming out now because her husband was fired....
Let the investigation be carried out before passing judgment on the head coach....

I'm not sure what the 3 year time span has to do with the text messages. They are what they are, whether they were revealed 3 years ago or yesterday.

Toxic TOP has never met a victim of crime that she couldn't somehow blame for being a victim. No charges filed? Not a victim. Happened five years ago? Not a victim. Drinking before being raped? Not a victim. Assaulted while being a woman alone out after dark? Not a victim.

I actually graduated this past May so I’m definitely not getting ready for school right now. My summers been good thanks for asking. Did and doing some traveling, some competing, some fishing, and work.

Fishing!!! That's you in your profile pic with the honkin huge bass? Nice to meet you!

Just do what we are all doing here....read all the information that is available and listen to all the interviews. And wait for the investigation to be completed. A special, independent board will be handling everything for the University.... (If you're not sure what the time span has to do with this, then you aren't reading, watching, and waiting before you pass final judgment...)
I do appreciate your civil responses and reactions to my posts... (some around here are obviously incapable of doing that and really takes away from the discussion-sorrry-she follows me around and does that:rolleyes:

I enjoy college games...and will watch many during the season.

BUT... until players from some of the contending schools can match intelligence tests with players from (for instance) West Point or Annapolis...the idea of a "national college champion" is farce.

Frankly, I think the issue of academic standing SHOULD play a part...with independent intelligence testing of all players who get significant playing time...and a requirement that a school be at or above the 50 percentile to qualify for the championship and/or bowl games.

Colleges have become farm teams for the NFL...and the NFL has enough money to afford farm teams if that if that is what they want.

Hi Frank...how are you this morning?
So you only want "smart kids" to play....and have an opportunity to get college educations? Does that apply to all sports?

Nothing we say here will effect the outcome. We are discussing and predicting what we think will happen.

Since this is in a sports forum, and in a thread about college football, we are also discussing how it will effect the football season for OSU.

No...I do not want only "smart" kids to play.

I want the NATIONAL COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP...to be about college students winning a championship.

And, yes...my opinion is it should apply to all sports.

Understood...There's lots of discussing and predicting going around without really taking a look at what's going on, though. I don't think it will take long for a decision to made. We'll see...
As far as how it will effect the football season? Depends on how the kids handle all the hype. I think sometimes we forget these players are kids...most of the ones at Ohio State, or any big school, are living a dream. Will they abandon that dream and the coach who helped them get there if he's let go?
The players I've known over a span of many years have a unique mindset when it comes to the Buckeyes...we'll see.
I hope everything works out for all involved....

So you want it to all be about intellect? The top academic students have access to numerous scholarships. The athletes have access to college because of the skills they have developed. It isn't all about the academics, and shouldn't be.

Yes, there should be minimum standards, and there are. That is why many players go to Junior Colleges first.

Yes, the athletes should be making progress towards a degree. And many schools, like my alma mater the Univ of Alabama, are doing so.

So you just don't like the playoff system in any college sport? What do you want to see?

Of course it does. But playing at a top level requires not only talent, but laser focus from all concerned. For schools that are consistently ranked in the top, every school on their schedule will play their best game against them. And they can't afford to relax for any game.

According to the NCAA rules, every college football player is a student and is making progress towards a degree. There are also minimum GPAs that they must maintain.

Students have different talents and skills. One may be a very talented artist but has trouble with other subjects. The engineering student may do trig in his head but can't run the 100 yard dash in less than 30 mins. The athletes who play football have their talents and skills. But as long as they are maintaining the NCAA mandated minimums, they should be able to compete at the highest level their team can manage.

Being able to relax and be lazer focused for each and every game is never guaranteed...these are still young people who have school and all other kind of issues to deal with-it's no easy task being any kind of student athlete at any level......... (Otherwise the most talented teams/individuals would never, ever lose and we know that doesn't happen;)
Technically, no one participating in any athletic even can afford to relax, can they?
We'll see....

All true....
As I mentioned, being a student athlete is no easy task, at any level...

Obviously we disagree.

Your Alma Mater, Alabama...has players who can barely read...and who do math (arithmetic, actually) counting on their fingers.

So you just don't like the playoff system in any college sport? What do you want to see?

If there is going to be a College champion...I would like it to be among people who actually go to college or an education rather than as a farm club for the NFL...or other pro sports.
