College football starts in 7 weeks!!

If there is going to be a College champion...I would like it to be among people who actually go to college or an education rather than as a farm club for the NFL...or other pro sports.

I think it’s something like 1% to 2% of college athletes actually go pro. Graduation rates for scholarship athletes is around 80%, which is still really good, and if you consider that only about 2% of high school athletes actually get athletic scholarships then that means nearly all college athletes are playing for love of the game while prioritizing their education.

Sorry Winterborn, I couldn’t resist sharing this even though OU will be rebuilding. I don’t just trash talk when my team is good and ... it made me laugh. Have anice day.

So what do you want to see? I'm not sure why you are so convinced that current players on the rosters aren't there attending classes and maintaining a GPA, etc. as per NCAA rules....I'm sure you have actual examples of this. I'd love to see your proof about the players from Alabama who can't read and are counting on their fingers:)
You do know players have to maintain eligibility and if they can't or don't, they are out....with a zillion others waiting to take their place...
Our synchro team wins the National Championship quite often....we know they don't sink. Do you think they can't read?

Frankie appears to be like the old guy sitting in his rocker on the front porch yelling at everyone to stay off his property.

His posts are usually a bit eccentric...but I'm really don't know where he's coming with this latest rant. It's kind of sad to even imagine that anyone actually thinks like that....
I going to suggest he watch Blind Side. Or maybe Rudy. Or Remember The Titans (I met their coach, btw, this year) or perhaps We Are Marshall...
or The Express..
Hey...Knute Rockne, All American...
Now I'm really in the mood of football season....

Obviously we disagree.

Your Alma Mater, Alabama...has players who can barely read...and who do math (arithmetic, actually) counting on their fingers.

Really? That would be news to the UA and to the football program. Do a little research. Alabama football has a higher graduation rate than the rate for all college students. It has been recognized for the academics. In the last few years we have also had players (starters) that excelled in academics as well. One O-lineman started all 4 years and graduated with a 4.0 in accounting. Our starting QB a few years ago was competing for the Rhodes Scholarship. Your hating on athletes and not worrying about facts is noted.

Obviously we disagree.

Obviously you have some preconceived notions about football players and programs that are grossly inaccurate.

Last May there were 9 Alabama players who graduated. Obviously there were more than 9 players graduating, but these 9 player are in the NFL and still completed their degrees. They went pro after their junior year, but kept up their academic work online.

It’s ok. I saw the same joke except the shirt was an Auburn one. It is pretty funny.

I'm just glad that it's looking like that scumbag Meyer is about to get what he deserves. There's been plenty of coaches that I've disliked over the years but none come close to the level of loathing I have for him.

That's a big part of what I like about Saban. He makes sure the guys take care of business on and off the field. Sure there are a few that will screw up, but what program doesn't have that.

Coach Saban is known for making sure his athletes go to class and pass their courses. That is why Mark Ingram went to Alabama. His Mom knew Saban and knew he would make sure her baby took his education seriously.

Saban has "Checkers". Nothing involving a board game. These people go around to classes and make sure the players are there. Skip class? Go see Saban and explain why.

No one is saying it doesn't happen. But your comments are accusing every player of doing this. It is bullshit.

You also singled out my alma mater. Find any articles about Alabama?

Let me help you out.

from: https://247sports.com/college/alaba...Academic-Achievement-Award-winners-111890019/
"Alabama is one of seven programs that recorded a 100-percent graduation rate for members of its 2010 freshman football class. Joining the Tide this year are Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, Utah, Utah State and Virginia."

from: https://yellowhammernews.com/alabam...-probably-wont-get-the-attention-it-deserves/
"When the Crimson Tide take the field against Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl on Thursday, they will do so with 29 players who have already earned a college degree — a national record — including three players who have earned a master’s degree."

from: https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2017/05/11_alabama_teams_have_perfect.html
"The Tide football team was in the 80th-to-90th percentile within the sport. The 976 score beat averages for public schools (959), all Division I schools (962) and private schools (966).

Among SEC football teams using a multi-year average, only Vanderbilt's 992 is better than Alabama's 980. Auburn and Florida football teams also had 980s."

The APR is calculated based on academic eligibility and graduation rates for NCAA athletes."

He is trying to prove that all jocks are idiots.
I'm not sure why he doesn't realize that's exactly what he's doing....
Well, except the ones from West Point or Annapolis...
I just let him rant when he gets "like this"....

WHERE IN THE FUCK DID I EVER SAY OR INTIMATE IN ANY WAY THAT "EVERY PLAYER" IS DOING IT?

Relax, guy. You have been badmouthing college football because of your inaccurate info on the intellect of players since you came into this thread.

And your comment "Your Alma Mater, Alabama...has players who can barely read...and who do math (arithmetic, actually) counting on their fingers" was certainly a cheap shot based on your own issues with athletes.

My mistake. You didn't say all. But you certainly think enough players are doing to make college football a problem.

Yeah, I should just let him go too. But I am proud of my alma mater. And the way the athletes have been performing both on and off the field is something to admire and respect.
