"A Republic, if you can keep it."

We were warned about unfettered capitalism over a century ago.

Capitalism is a great thing. It created the wealth that created our nation. As you already know, too much of good thing can be very bad. The best government and economic system we can have is what we already have: a constitutional federal republic with a regulated capitalist economy and a socialists safety net.

The main problem, IMO, is that We, the People aren't maintaining it very well.
 
it might for a while......but I also think those measures are entirely responsible for making society soft and apathetic. 20 years ago a massive hurricane would have led us to band together, pick ourselves up, and fix what was broken.......nowadays, a Cat 2 hurricane passes through and people seem paralyzed and close to death



or we could actually man up and make it a safe harbor for women and children..........because government isn't doing it nor are they required to or responsible/liable for their failure to do so

Let me put some thinking cap to all this. Libertarians should have as much input on these matters as DEMS AND REPUBES! SO HOLD ONTO THOSE THOUGHTS AND MAKE SURE YOUR CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN HEAR THEM. WHY CAN't YOU LIBERTARS create your own party so you can be fairly represented in Congress?

It's not the Democrats that believe in a two party system- IT'S REPUBES. They are the ones that believe that it takes over 50% to be a majority?

Hell, Democrats believe whatever party gets the majority of votes is a majority! WE BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY! If we don't win- We check to the power- as long as it is not a DICK TATER DEMOCRACY KILLER LIKE DONALD TRUMP!

The rich are too powerful, have built way too much power in our government.

We have a government of the money, by the money, and FOR the money.

And if you try to stand in the way you will get run over.

There is no will to do anything, either, about campaign finance reform. In 2010, I worked with this guy's campaign. He ran against Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin. He refused to take either private or party donations, and later wrote a book about the experience. He ran again in 2014 but didn't win that time, either.

the first thing you're wrong about here is that Democrats also believe in two parties only, otherwise I wouldn't be hearing about my 3rd party vote being a wasted vote, or that my 3rd party vote is voting for trump. Secondly, this notion of a democracy, where majority rules, is not what American was/is supposed to be.........and democrats know this. they want it so they don't have to worry about protecting rights of the minority (republicans) because of the hate fueled between both parties and their ideologies.

Even with a record turnout of 66.7%, I think the answer is found in the third of Americans who didn't bother to vote.

Off hand one thing that Trump emphasized but didn't invent government sleaze. He one-upped Hillary on cronyism, filling the swamp with more gators and sowing government distrust among voters.

Politicians have spent decades telling voters their own government is screwing them. It appears at least a third of them believe nothing can be done about it.

capitalism has always been a risk/reward setup and it always should be. The idea of the whole social safety net was pioneered by rich people who didn't want to lose based on their risk, only reward..........with very little trickle down effect to the people doing the labor.........tag that along with all the hurdles one has to jump to get started in business of their own (insert lame 'excuses' statement here) and you don't have capitalism, you have corruption and crony capitalism. It's a small club and you ain't in it.

apathy. too many people don't see a positive benefit to them voting, or they feel that as long as they are at least working and providing a basic living for their family, whoever is currently doing the job is good enough

Agreed on this point. I've been told the same shit for the past two elections.

Agreed there is a lot of hate fueled by both parties, but I'm not sure what you mean about "democracy, where majority rules, is not what American was/is supposed to be". Majority does rule, but is limited by the Constitution. Just because liberals want to disarm all Americans because they can't control gangs in their own cities doesn't mean they can or should even though they've been working on it since the Clintons rolled into town.

The Republicans are no better with their ideology of controlling people by banning drugs, abortions and gay marriage.
