Don't get me wrong I love Tom Hanks as well. Tom Cruise was earmarked to play the American pilot Billy Fiske in the Battle of Britain but it got canned because of the furore about it. What do you imagine would have happened if a British film suggested that the Brits fought in the Iwo Jima?

the underline says it all....further, it cannot be said that the US would have been doomed without british support, thus, there is no way, no how that britain "saved" the US....as you clearly state, it was actually the US who saved britain, for without US support, britain would have been doomed....

Not pretending anything. I have posted on many political boards and am very familiar with American arrogance. Just like the taunting of Tom in this thread.

They seem to think they are the greatest nation on the earth and they are far from it.This does not mean I hate all Americans.

And what does the fact that Americans are the biggest importers have to do with being good or bad? The only reason their economy survived both wars was because of their geographical position. And all of Europe's wealth(Gold and assets) was transfered and invested in the USA. To help rebuild Europe.

Nobody is saying that Britain could have survived without US aid, I was talking about how the US would have survived without the Brits. It really does surprise me that people seemed incapable of understanding that I was talking hypothetically.

The reason Tom was taunted was not because he wasn't American, nor was it the due to others thinking 'we are American and thus better than Tom'. Tom was taunted because he made an assertion and then continually ducked answering why he believed as he did. Tom continually made diversions in an attempt to steer the conversation elsewhere.

When Tom finally addressed his original assertion, the taunting ceased and the discussion resumed.
