Chavez On Private Schools: Teach Socialism or Face Takeover

What bawc expressed is nationalism, plain and simple. The claim is that the nation state is the political unit holding rights to decide, rather than the individual. Further, he argues that no "outsiders" have a right to be critical.

Of course he said no such thing. I just bumped up his posts.

He made the factual statement that it is "their country" and they can vote for whatever they want to, and if they decide they don't like it, they can vote him out.

He clearly referenced free elections, which they have.

Power to the people.

Blackascoal is working as hard as he can to destroy everything liberals have spent 200 years trying to accomplish.

Damo wasn't published in the New Yorker.

From what I understand, bac is a political activist with a liberal or leftist ideology who has spent years working in the streets for those very accomplishments while you are too young to have done anything but call him names on a message board, so get off your high horse.

I see and so when Bush was elected then "THEY" should be able to do whatever "THEY" want?

You mean Bush HASN'T done what he wants?

He took this nation to war and mass-murdered hundreds of thousands pf innocent people .. which Chavez has not done or even proposed.

Bush attacked civil liberties in America at will under the guise of "terrorism" and protecting America, which we all now know .. well, some of us have known all along .. that it's just complete bullshit.

[qioue]Why would you say Bravo anyway? You don't want private schools around at all?[/QUOTE]

I have no problem with private schools for people that want them, but the vast majority of any population are going to be educated in public schools, no different here.

There is little question that educating his people is more of a priority for Chavez than Bush .. in fact, it's more of a priority for Castro than Bush, and like Castro, Chavez has made huge improvements in the education of his people.

Did you kow that the literacy rate in Cuba is now higher than it is in America?

You're an idiot.

The majority has no right to abuse the minority. Venezula is now a precedural, anti-liberal democracy like Singapore.

No, you're the idiot.

The Venezulan people have every right to do what is in the best interest of their people .. and guess what? .. You don't get a say in what THEY theink is best for THEM.

What Venezula is now is better prepared to educate their people and increase their opportunity through a variety of programs designed to do ust that .. and THEY are using THEIR oil resources for THEIR people.

ONLY an idiot would be whining about what Venezulans peacefully do for THEIR own people.

Yes, he made the argument (hardly factual) that the nation is the political unit with the right to decide. Nationalism.

my sentiments exactly .. and thank you.

Bingo! Great post.

Watching a Socialist takeover of a nation is nothing to ignore. I'd rather not allow that to become part of our history because we ignored it somewhere else and dismissed it as 'unimportant' and negligible because it was their own choice.

Why? You think Capitalism is so superior? I think this is crazy, honestly. Just crazy.

I believe that it is. I do not want to have a government that tells private schools what curriculum they must cover. I don't want one that specifies what political "truth" I must learn, even in public schools.

I would prefer to avoid what Venezuela is turning into. Does this mean I think we should intervene? Hell no! But there is nothing wrong with learning from the actions of another place so that we may see the signs and avoid them.

Damo you have no idea how funny I find that, in a very ironic way.

I'm sure you do. Yet I have not heard the federal government, or even a state one, requiring that Private Schools teach some specific political "truth" yet here. I will know it is one of the signs though, because I paid attention.

Just as I dislike the PATRIOT act and think that we are idiots for giving up freedom for "security" and that it is a dangerous road to walk.

I learn and watch and work towards what I think is right. Ironic... maybe. But I don't think ignoring what is happening in Venezuela makes us any better at all, learning from it does.

I, on the other hand, do not want a society that allows parents to selectively choose whatever nonsense they wish to teach their children. I think there have to be certain minimum standards. They can be (and should be) quite broad but they have to be there.

The most common form of child abuse is parental. It's unpleasant and disquieting but quite true. And teaching one's child in such a way as to exclude the child from full participation in society as an adult is clearly child abuse, in my view.

Of course you don't see it, because you yourself were indoctrinated with much of it.
