She obviously wouldn't carry out a policy like that today. She claims that she regrets the law and had no control over it, which might be true, might be bullshit. Either way, the policy has become so unpopular among Democrats, she'd never do something like that now. Whereas Pence has no restraints on cruelty, because of how crazy the modern Republicans have gotten.

The West is pretty authoritarian on plenty of things nowadays, and most of that comes from the left, not the right.

I'd rather have a functional technocracy over a democracy, but admittedly, Singapore isn't Western.
