The vaccine will definitely save lives. It will probably reduce transmission. It might reduce transmission that if done all at once it could create herd immunity globally, and wipe Covid-19 out of the human population. We can then watch for Covid-19 coming back, and attack it immediately when seen.

The virus has to continue to exist in order to continue to mutate, so yes, eliminating it would do a lot to keep it from mutating. Even just reducing the number of people who have it will reduce the number and speed of mutations.
