You know what, I don’t know what Maher said or did not say. Nor care. I don’t know how he got put on the left in the first place. It’s like, oh if you say something bad about bush, you’re a “liberal”. He’s not.

But what it appears that he said here, is not even debatable. These people ARE directly responsible for the deaths of more people than will ever be truly counted. Fact.

Personally, the day I hear Cheney is dead, is the day I take my red dress out. I don’t care who thinks that’s “Hateful”. I think that bombing people is hateful. I think lying to your country to start a war is “hateful”.

I can’t wait. The world will be a better place. Ok?

But do you "cheer" when he says something? This is being a bit disingenuous, don't you think? The people cheering are agreeing with his statements, they are not conservatives.
 
the transcript shows they were talking about some crazy poster on huffingtonpost, who wished cheney had died in the taliban attack.

Looks like scarborough was trying to get maher to denounce the poster. He wouldn't. He said the dued had a right to say whatever he wanted. Oh well, you can criticize Maher for not denouncing some loony anonymous poster on huffington post.

But, you can't invent a fictional coversation, where Maher "wished" that cheney would have died.

Not really. But it could have been. Probably would have been if it weren’t for the fact that I’m boycotting that site due to the fact that they never post my comments. Which probably is directly correlated to how many times I’ve called Arianna a dip-shit.
I’ve already pretty much said it here. I wonder if I will get Damo onto MSNBC, when Scarborough demands that guest after guest, “denounce” what a post on justplainpolitics said?

I don't think people should cheer for the death of the vice president. It's tastless and crude. That wasn't cool. It would be bad for the United States, if the taliban were able to kill our vice president.

Maher is, broadly speaking, a Libertarian. If any should apologize for Maher, it should be the self-described libetarian - Damocles!

Maher is for privitization of social security, legalization of drugs, and against the Iraq War. Sounds like a Libertarian to me.

Oh, I don't give a crap about Cheney. Maher's right. Cheney's caused enough death, to earn a one-way ticket to hell.

I'm just thinking about the office of vice president. For the taliban to kill an american vice president, would be a huge stratetgic and propoganda victory.

maybe you should be saying all this about the 'terrorists' since they are the ones causing almost all of the killing in iraq.
 
Some people see Cheney as at least as bad as a Fidel Castro or Agosto Pinochet type figure. If they truly see him that way I can't criticize them for wishing death upon him.

Now in this particular case I think its wrong regardless because you don't want the Taliban to score a victory but I think one's feelings about someone matter in determining how bad what they said is.

Exactly. Implicit in any objection to "wishing Cheney dead" or whatever is the assertion that he's not as bad as Pinochet or Castro or Stalin. Some of us genuinely disagree with that premis. I, for one, believe that anyone who could consign tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians to death simply as a step toward imposing a hypothetical Pax Americana on the world to be just as bad as any of the aforementioned worthies. Sorry, but it's true.
