To enter foreign countries, they require a passport and birth certificates for children. The amount of paperwork required in this country just to get a real ID to fly is a task for many.

Yes. This is usually the "play" that the GOP runs when they want to "fix" the voting integrity problem which has almost no evidence of existence. It's a naked attempt to disenfranchise folks who will automatically have difficulty in getting an ID. Something the MAGA faithful simply dismiss because they can't conceive of anyone's life but their own. It's a statistics game played by the GOP and they count on their faithful being overly credulous and mathematically less well educated.

The RealID thing seems to just expand out this "need" for VERIFIABLE IDENTIFICATION. Maybe that's just how a modern tech society works. I dunno. But it isn't cheap or easy to get it.

IF the MAGA and the Right truly wanted to fix all these problems they would agree to get the government to spend the MILLIONS possibly BILLIONS of dollars needed to ensure that EVERY single American, WITHOUT EFFORT, can get ahold of and have a legitimate ID.

But they won't because they don't understand the concept of paying to fix the problem. They just want the bad people to be hurt and go away.

No. As soon as you are born, you are given your first piece of government id...a birth certificate. The hospital and/or county office keeps these for you. You are also given a name. That's an id. It is your identifier until you decide to change it.

Even if you later decide to go completely off-grid and become a hermit, you cannot erase that id. When you die under such conditions, it will be in obscurity. Eventually, you get your final government id...a death certificate.

RealID came out the Bush Jr. era, as a way to enhance driver's licenses to show you are a citizen. After March 2025, you will need it to fly on an airline (or a passport).
