If Christianity is true, why is there so much evil in the world?

Nope.. The sin wasn't masturbation.. The sin was disobedience because the Jews followed Leverite marrage rules.

Levirate marriage is a type of marriage in which the brother of a deceased man is obliged to marry his brother's widow. The term levirate is itself a derivative of the Latin word levir meaning "husband's brother".

God killed Onon because he didn't want to get his brother's widow pregnant.

Genesis 38:9–10.

So...are you saying that masturbation is not a sin in the eyes of the Christian churches???

I was responding to something YOU said, Damocles.

Let me say that again: I was responding to something YOU said.

Now...if you are saying that YOU were off topic...and I should not have commented on what YOU said...say that.

I'd love to hear how you word it.

The hypothetical of the OP is an absurdity. Commenting on that should have left this thread totally blank except for the comments of the person who created it.

But...it is standard Internet protocol to use threads like this for slightly tangential purposes...which is what YOU did...and I commented on your slight diversion.

You went off premise, and clearly so. As I said. I have no problem participating in a different hypothetical, but saying that you insist that I work outside the premise now because you were responding to "something I said" doesn't change you are off premise. Begin with the original premise and flow from there... the hypothetical we are discussing is "if Christianity is true"...

I don't know what the 1400 different Protestant churches believe, but the teaching that its about masturbation is ignorant.. Poor scholarship.

Masturbation itself is never listed as a sin, however lustful thoughts are a sin.

Matthew 5:27–30
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

The verses I would most associate with this type of sin, were I to be a Christian, would be in letters to the Corinthians and Romans:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). It is difficult for me to see how jacking off would glorify this God.

“Everything that does not come from faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). I cannot see how jacking off would be something that comes "from faith".

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). I think this one is obvious. How would you be honoring this God when you rubbed one out?

Well, Paul and Timothy wrote those letters and Paul had issues with women..

I will reply to this somewhere else.

Here, as a matter of fact:

The first one is the words of Christ himself, according to Matthew.

I think Matthew had an agenda... It screams at you when he alters the quote from Hosea 11:1.

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

There is no special sin that is okay because it is "less". At least according to the philosophy. This is why "All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God"... While I would agree that jacking off isn't "evil" per se, it is no less keeping you from the Glory of God than murder would. It is "Evil" by that definition.

Where does the Bible say that jerking off is a sin?

If you read the thread you will find that I already answered this exact question with this:

ANSWER: If there is so much soap in the world, why are there so many dirty people?

Think about it.

The reason this is a bad analogy is because, if there is a good god, he has the ability to get rid of evil. Whereas soap is not an all-powerful sentient being.

Sure. A world without free will would be better than a world with evil.
Actually, if this god is all-powerful, he'd be able to create an existence with both free will and no evil.

OHHHHHHHHHHH, please explain how there can be an existence with both free will and no evil.
<this should be good>
