Let's Go, Get Woke, America!

Unfortunately, many working class Bostonians use the word "retard" as a synonym for "person I don't particularly like or care about."

It's pronounced, re_tahd, however, always preceded by "fuckin'."
You can easily imagine Mark Wahlberg or Matt Damon saying it, can't you?

Happened to watch Good Will Hunting again last week. Do working class Boston people still call Harvard students Barney’s? Pretty funny when Casey Affleck said it.

Hello cawacko,

You’re willing to say who you vote for, which is a personal thing, so you’re not afraid to discuss what you do personally. The point of my post is how we back words with action. Should people acknowledge their white privileged publicly, like in their LinkedIn profile, is what I’m asking. People put pronouns in their work emails now, should we acknowledge white privilege there as well?

I’m trying to get an understanding of where you would like this to go.

Should people acknowledge on websites listing their personal information that they recognize white privilege?

I don't think that is a normal part of what is expected on those sites. Not a bad idea if it got to be 'a thing,' though!

Make your argument in the third person. That's fine. Make it about me and I'll consider that to be rude. Please do not go there. OK?

Any person, no matter their race, who does not agree that white privilege exists is being unrealistic.

Senator Tim Scott said he was pulled over 7 times in one year.

Ya wanna know why? Black man driving a nice car.

i didn't know that one, but it could very well have been a thing that the micks in Southie said.

It’s not rude to ask if you use pronouns in your email signature or LinkedIn account. You’re free not to answer but there’s nothing rude about it. In fact it’s actually a softball to allow you to show how woke you are. Thus asking if you/people feel the need to acknowledge white privilege there as well. I’m not saying we should, or that it’s anti-woke if you don’t, but it’s definitely a way that we could publically acknowledge it outside doing so anonymously on a board like this.

This is not about me. It's not going to be about me. I am asking you please stop trying to make it about me. OK? Hello? That line of discussion will not be engaged. For the purposes of this conversation just forget that I exist. Make this an academic discussion, thank you. Talk about woke. Surely you can come up with some comment about being woke, about being socially aware and part of those who would like to see racism become a thing of the past? Should people be woke? Is being woke a good thing? The answer has to be yes.

If every individual were woke, racism would vanish.

Do you concur?

This was the scene. I’m guessing Southie has gentrified some since then? Or is there still that Southie/working class divide vs the Harvard’s and MIT’s as portrayed in the movie?

Southie has indeed gentrified to an extent, but Southie Classic till exists.
There's still a bar that decorates itself with stuffed monkeys in February,
racial animosity that goes back to the bussing trauma.

Neighborhoods had their own schools to which kids walked from home. That was city life since forever. That's what I lived in the 1950s.
The Judge Garrity decision fucked that up and created bussing and the racial animosity.
It also solidified white working class mentality in the area.
It's the reason for the monkey decorations a half-century later.

No because woke is racism.

Oh! That motherfucker was from Boston that used to call me "Mick".

He got a hell of a lot of Charlie horses that summer. Never saw it happening.

I gimped that sumbitch! He knew it was me, but he never saw me.

1) racism/bigotry will never vanish because it’s part of human nature

2) kind of hard to not talk about yourself assuming one is not a bot, it’s the whole progressive premise of “lived experiences”

3) we use pronouns to identify ourselves and to show support for those who don’t identify with their birth gender (as I understand it)

4) I’m asking if we should identify ourselves as white privilege in our profiles, like we do pronouns, as a way of letting the world know we are a beneficiary of it - this is a discussion board that’s why I’m asking the question and since the topic is wokeness doing so would definitely be woke

As I understand it, people with money in Boston at that time either moved to the suburbs (which didn’t have busing) or sent their kids to private schools and those in Southie who didn’t have money were the ones who had to deal with busing.

Is that accurate? (or close to it)

That's exactly right, except, of course,
the burbs would have non-court ordered bussing anyway because they weren't urban neighborhoods with neighborhood schools to which the kids could walk.

That is not the reason. He put trolls on ignore. You know you are a troll and you have admitted as such.

He's a snowflake faggot shill turd. I'm just a cracker that calls it like I sees it. That motherfucker is a piece of shit that ain't never worked a day in his life.
