Diversity Makes Greatness
Hello cawacko,
Thank you for your view. If individuals were to identify their own white privilege as a part of their online identity, that would be like giving their race as white. There is no requirement here to divulge one's race or gender. Individuals may choose not to give any such indications. That would then, logically, remain a personal choice as to whether or not to give such information. I do not believe it should be expected nor assumed.
Obviously, individuals who are not white do not benefit from white privilege (unless they appear to be Caucasian, and even then sometimes they still get shut out.)
Look at the case of Meghan Markle. I had no idea she wasn't Caucasion, but apparently that information circulated. She was discriminated against by the royal family. She appeared white to me, (and I'm sure others,) but she wasn't white enough to get white privilege in every situation.
If racism will never vanish because it is part of human nature, why on Earth do so many white humans have such a hard time admitting that they have benefited from not be discriminated against? Or admit that they have acted in a different way towards black people because of this implicit racism?
Or,
Maybe it just seems like racism can never be conquered because we are still so undeveloped as a life form that we can't even imagine such a thing at this point, but then hundreds or thousands of years in the future it actually comes to pass.
Now that the world is so much smaller and there is so much mixing between races, perhaps pure race individuals will become fewer and fewer and eventually everyone will be some sort of mix. Most people are already...
1) racism/bigotry will never vanish because it’s part of human nature
2) kind of hard to not talk about yourself assuming one is not a bot, it’s the whole progressive premise of “lived experiences”
3) we use pronouns to identify ourselves and to show support for those who don’t identify with their birth gender (as I understand it)
4) I’m asking if we should identify ourselves as white privilege in our profiles, like we do pronouns, as a way of letting the world know we are a beneficiary of it - this is a discussion board that’s why I’m asking the question and since the topic is wokeness doing so would definitely be woke
