lose everything in anatural disastor and lose your vote

Or do you think that the legislature should pass a law stating:

"Kenneth Blackwell should be purged from the rolls
Lisa Edmond should be purged from the rolls
Donald Duck should be purged from the rolls
Marissa Blackmond should be purged from the rolls... etc... etc"

Is that how you think government works?

Damo, the state legislature passes a law that states that people registered in other states can't be registered in Louisiana. This gets passed on to the secretary of state, who interprets and executes the law in the best way they see fit.
No, they don't get to just interpret them as they see fit. It gives them specific powers relating to what they can and cannot do to purge the roles. It is ridiculous to pretend that the legislature cannot, or does not, limit the powers of the executive with legal limitations on their powers. They do not get Carte Blanche to interpret it in any way at all.

You're being a dumbass. Fuck you.

There are probably circumstances in this instance that make things different, and for some reason there is no other way to purge them. I wouldn't see why they would go through this for any other reason - the voters would've been purged long before now. It's been like 2 years.
I doubt that it's not that there's no other way to purge them, but rather that they are lon some automatic pourge list as is. This effort is likely some extra step to allow the relocated person the chance to keep their Louisiana registration when they should have been booted with no notice.

They had to pursue the information and compare the names of voters to the list they generated of voters in the USIt was not a automattic thing.

The study commissioned by out our own government has proven this type of fraud is so rare as to be completely insignificant.

Why did this LA SS feel the need to spend tens of thousands of LA tax dollars pursuing something so insignificant?

Would nto the dollars have been much better spent on making sure MORE LA people would vote instead of trying to Cut people from the rolls?

"The named plaintiffs in the suit include Rosa Segue, a woman described as a lifelong Orleans Parish resident who lost her home to Katrina and has relocated to Katy, Texas and a person identified only as John Doe-Jane Doe displaced from Louisiana who intends to return.

The suit says the second plaintiff has not voted in another state, does not intend to and never received any warning about the pending removal from Louisiana voting rolls."

Ok... if neither currently live in LA and BOTH have obviously registered outside of the state, then they SHOULD be purged. IF and WHEN they return to LA.... THEN they can simply re-register there.

It would appear LA is giving them an opportunity to give up their registrations in the state they currently live in and still have the ability to vote absentee in LA given the circumstances of their re-locations.

When inaction allows those who are not allowed to vote to do so, then the government has failed in protecting the civil rights of all its citizens.

What the state is doing is asking people who have had to relocate several times after having lost EVERYTHING in a natural disaster to within 30 days respond to a piece of paper they very well may have never recieved.

It will come election day they will fill out their absentee voting from with their choses to NEVER even know that their vote was NOT counted because that Piece of paper they were supposed to respond to was never sent to the right address and had DO NOT FORWARD printed on the front of it.

This is What vote caging is!

This has been Done Before by the Republican party.

They were caught red handed doing it in 1981 and 1986 and there are court cases ongoing where it is beig litigated to find if they did it again in 2000 and 2004.

The guy in charge of this action is a Republican in LA.

Why do you think black people dont like to vote for Republicans?

Every person who is sick of this republican party we have today should tell everyone they know that the Republican party has a KNOWN history of vote caging and was caught and punished for this in 1981 and 1986.

Desh... these people who have relocated and not returned to LA AND who have obviously registered to vote in another state, SHOULD be purged. They are not allowed to vote in both states. You are either an absentee voter or you register in your current state. You left off the part of the article in that says both plantiffs currently reside in other states and obviously they both registered in other states.

Wrong. If you get a driver's license or state identification in Colorado you will provide your thumb print. It is also one of the requirements in the Real ID act that begins in May of 2008 unless we change it.

To add to that.... some industries Water require fingerprinting. Every time I change jobs I have to go get finger printed, as the securities industry is one of those that require it.

When I became the manager of a gas station that sold alcohol, because it had a liquor license and I was manager I had to get fingerprinted for that.

I was also fingerprinted when I got Firefighter I, as well as when I entered the military. Again when I received my clearances....

I've been fingerprinted more times than a criminal.

In the federal court action, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People contends that the purge has already begun without the necessary pre-approval of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Because of its history of racial discrimination before the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, voting changes in Louisiana and other Southern states must be approved by federal officials.

Oh well, the law is the law.

They didn't follow it, apparently. Now, they're being brought to court. It's amazing how often you can end up in court if you don't follow the law.

So? WTF does how often you and SF have been fingerprinted have to do with this lawsuit?

Interesting trivia, getting to know your board mates!

I have never been fingerprinted. My children have been for their safety and I immediately regretted doing it.

It was a branch off of discussion on a national ID. Water had commented that they cannot fingerprint someone unless a law was broken or suspected of being broken. We were correcting him.

Sure..you have never been fingerprinted.............
