Materialistic society is 'damaging' children

It leads to seeking happiness too much in material things despite the oftentimes negative impact on longterm financial solvency and actual resulting happiness.

Your question is like asking what's wrong with stupidity or drug addiction.

That would be materialism, retard. Commercialism itself is just business.

Granted I grew up in a house without cable (or even an antenna, although in middle school I could pick up 2 channels with a mickey mouse ears device), that didn't have a computer with internet until 9th grade (we had a word processor for the 2 years before that), without video games and a television until I was 8 (and it was just a gameboy, I bought a Gamecube when I was 13) and without a DVD player until I brought one back from my Air Force tech school four years ago. I was never obsessive about fashion or technology. In fact, I just got my first cellphone a month ago and buy my clothes at Old Navy instead of Abercrombie (same style and design except $30-$60 cheaper).

That said, I love materialism and commericalism. They make my life comfortable and I gather an abundance of entertainment and excitement from it all. There are a lot of cheap thrills and guilty pleasures out there that I will not live without.

Threedee, I have no problem with comfortable living either, and that post you quoted was intended for AHZ, not you.

The problem arises when people define themselves through material possessions or try to find happiness through material possessions instead of making an already full life more comfortable.

There's nothing "wrong" with stupidity, drug addiction or commercialism. It's the pursuit of happiness that counts. That's what this game is all about. You can't engineer a happy a ending for another...unless your name is Air Force Amy!

Yeah, its just that the quote summarized the current topic well and was coherent unlike the only alternative quote, which was naturally made by AssholeHat

What word, sentence or concept are you having trouble with, nubbin'-Boy?

Why do you care what people think?
Chicks are a dime a dozen. Forget the car chasers and hook up with a real woman.
Judging someone by the car they drive only shows that you may be smart but you're sure not wise.

You have it figured out. :clink:
I don't care myself. I drive an 18 yr old car, not because I cannot afford a new one but because it still does the job.
I do have a new Prius ordered, but that is because of one of my businesses.
It is actually for training my technicians.

I do not make much off of my business, but it is enough to get by if needed and I provide a living for a few other human beings and their families.
My head Tech/Manager made more out of the business last year than I did. but then he pretty much runs the place. My company books are open for any of the employees to view.

I make enough off of my little farm to pay for it's upkeep and pay a married couple to do chores and housekeeping /cooking for me.

Plus I have a gravy consultant IT job working from home.
I live well beneath my means but I will survive bad times worse than most and I have everything I need and more.

I have provided for my grandchildrens future education.

Life is good for me but that does not mean I do not care for others.
I am currently looking for another suitable business to get into so I can help more people.

And I am considered one of the stupit posters on here, go figure :D

SO then why are you a communist? Anyone not a fascist must be a communist.

I am just me. Just because I can afford to be wasteful does not mean I want to be wasteful.

You really must overcome your this or that mentality.
Reality is a grand mixture of all shades and flavors. Not just this or that.
