Just so you know .... In the charity world it's a well known fact that conservatives give more to
to charities than liberals do .

That is true, but the problem is there is not enough charity giving to meet the need. Far more is done for the needy through government programs. Charity works better when more people are involved in the effort. By utilizing the power of big government we provide a mighty safety net unparalleled by any private charity.

The New Deal and the Great Society have done what philanthropy never accomplished. These massive programs have given dignity to the poor and raised the standard of living for the disadvantaged and the elderly to levels never seen before. Some like to claim that capitalism did that. We know better. It was capitalism to generate the wealth, and it was socialism to direct it where it was most useful to society. The rich are still rich and the poor are far better off than ever before.

And don't forget that if it were not for a government tax break, much charitable giving would never have happened.
