NFL Playoffs

Anyone can have a bad game

Brilliant! My friend!

This happens to every player in the league- every coach in the league- and every team in the league!

Reminds me of Vince Lombardi who addressed this in a very intelligent philosophical way....

"Nothing is ever as good as it seems, and nothing is ever as bad as it seems either"

Not sure where the quote came from as Lou Holtz also used the quote.

The quote goes all the way back to Shakespeare- one of my favorite authors.

Shakespeare, of course, was not a professional philosopher, as his first duty was always to the construction of artifice.

But.....Throughout his body of work came some of the most useful and practical philosophy of all times.

Most famous personality to come out of SF were the Grateful Dead, Levi Strauss, and McElhenny, I got his card in a classic NFL trading card series when I was a kid, couldn’t trade for anybody, but I recall OJ saying he was one of inspirations starting out in football

We’re talking about Oakland aka The Town, not San Francisco aka The City. Now technically E-40 is from Vallejo but that’s still East Bay.

I subscribed to NFL Redzone this year. It's on of YouTube TV's add-on services. It's basically a sports "DJ" switching between all current games so you catch every score and every big play. Totally worth it to me - since I moved out of Seattle many of the Seahawks games were blacked out. It's much cheaper than going to a sportsbar and running up a beer tab!

But is it as enjoyable?

RB, you insist on using hatred instead of respect for other teams that are not in your state!

Just as you use hatred to express your poor disregard for others that do not agree with you politically.

Football- Politics- it's all a blood sport to you! You hate everything that is not about you!

That says, more about you than any of your Football competition, or your political adversaries.

The fans of the Cowboys that live here did not call ourselves America's Team or God's Team.

No Sir! Those terms came from sports castors that do the play-by-play that started all of that AMERICA'S TEAM stigma, because everywhere the Cowboys play there are locals there, that show up in the crowds in huge numbers wearing their Dallas Cowboy Jerseys and regalia that is very noticeable in contrast to the colors of the team they visit. So, the Sportscasters started referring to the Dallas Cowboys as America's Team- Because this happens in every stadium the Cowboys ever visit to play the game.

And when the Cowboys used to play in Irving stadium, where we had a roof that would open and close. Some Sportscaster, quite possibly John Madden, told a joke on the air that the Dallas Cowboys were no longer just America's team but were now "Gods Team" because God could watch them play through the open roof! It was a joke man!

Perhaps your hatred comes from a bit of jealousy, envy, or fear of the Cowboys? Or perhaps you lack a sense of humor, or lack of just common respect for others!

Have you ever heard me ever say anything negative about the Steelers or the Eagles?

No! Because I have a respect for all NFL teams because I am a fan of the sport!

Well, I don't know about all that, for a decade or so the Cowboys promoted themselves as "America's team," they might have not come up with the tag, but they certainly took full advantage of it

And you can't blame them for that, but got to wonder if the portrait in "North Forty Dallas" wasn't an applicable description

I hope Tua stays retired for his own good. He had a couple of really bad concussions, my son in law who played pro hockey in Germany and semi pro in Alaska, has a lot of problems now from concussions then. It’s not worth it.

Obviously good advice but doubtful he'd see it that way, called youth, can never see your own death

And while we are on the topic, what would be the solution to devastating head injuries in football? Violence is part of the game, but what could be done to reduce life threatening injuries to the head?

If you, I mean anyone, hates the Cowboys, there is noting I, or the fans, or the owners, or the players can ever do about that!

Haters are going to hate!

I know for a while Jerry Jones picked up BAD BOYS off of the wire, like Terrell Owens for example- to help us win games.

And he has made a lot of mistakes like firing Landry and all that, but he has corrected a lot of his ways and now owns the largest Franchise in Sports history!

As for Peter Gent, his novel was an intentional Black-Balling of the Dallas Cowboys or even the sport of Football, for personal reasons.

I mean, even his best friend Don Merideth didn't exactly agree with his assessment of himself, or Peters, or the Dallas Cowboys in the film. I remember he said something like, "If I had known Peter was as great as he said he was in the film, I would have thrown even more to him"!

But, let's give Gent some credit for cleaning up the league! Every team in the league saw themselves in the movie, that was already 15 years too late BTW!

I'll never forget Gent, as he is still a big football star round' these parts to all the old fans!

I don't feel anything about the Cowboys, just another NFL team, like anyone of all of them

I did thought get sick of hearing that Dallas was America's team back in the day, like the Rose Bowl was promoted as the granddaddy of them all

We mature. I can remember when New England became the new Dynasty, and I must admit, for years I hated them, their coach, and Tom Brady- UNTIL I realized, I WAS ONLY JEALOUS OF THEM. Today I only admire them all, and realize we all have our hey days- and more power to them when they do. They just make everyone build their teams to beat the dynasties using everything they can learn from them in the process.

Things change, and I don't believe 3 years ago, any of us would have picked the same teams in the playoffs today to be here.
