Okay... Why would we...

this is what you and I suspected. Colorado has an atrocious participation rate. People who are eligible aren't getting it...for a variety of reasons, which are all valid: read tape, stigma, etc
Atrocious? It's clearly about Median.

And if you notice the story says "may". I can list a bunch of things that "may" cause it just like the story.

LOL. You know what else 'may' be the reason. Not as many people are in need.

You've yet to provide a transcript.

I provided a credible news article from your hometown paper, that says your state's participation rate in food stamps is atrocious.

Thats a valid reason for outreach.

I'm not buying that they're just trying to give away food stamps, like door prizes, to people who don't need it. I think that's your interpretation.

Hey, Mr. Math: being ranked 37th out of 50 is not median.

Only 56 percent of Coloradans eligible for federal food stamps took part in the federal program in 2004- Rocky Mountain News,

Well, what do you expect? Damo and Sf probably lurk outside of the Colorado social services offices, throwing rotten tomatoes at people going inside. Yelling out "get a job loser!"

It does not say it is "atrocious" it says it is about Median, in other words about in the middle of the pack. Admittedly on the bottom end of the Median, but it does not say it is "atrocious". And I don't have a transcript, I said so earlier. I was listening to the ad as I typed.

It's about a lower middle. It certainly isn't in the bottom 40s, what I would call "atrocious".

I also prefer that people be a bit ashamed of accepting welfare. We shouldn't promote it as anything more than a temporary solution for those in need.

Why should people down on their luck, or unemployed, feel ashamed?

Why should teenage moms with babies feel ashamed? You don't want them to get abortions.

They clearly are retired, at least the ones this ad was aimed at are.

Why should they not? Taking help from others is not easy, and doesn't feel good. Much of that gives incentive to move away from such activity.

And Teenage Moms have nothing to do with this ad, and I have never promoted making abortion illegal. That is just an assumption because I do promote a different solution.

You get upset because you are making your point poorly, then you start the 'shotgun' approach. You make assumptions and throw them all over hoping one or two will stick.

I'm keeping this on point. My report of an ad that states, "I don't need it, but it is 'nice' when things are 'tighter'." An old lady, clearly retired....

LOL

Go get charity you losers! You should be ashamed for using government aid!

The teenage mom that kept her baby (like you and superfreak demand she should), should be supported. Her child should be supported. If she needs foodstamps, I certainly hope that "Pro-life" people like you and SF aren't mocking this girl for getting food stamps.

Please, advertising it like some sort of product? Get real. You don't freak out because you generally support such things.

Why would anybody need to be reminded that these programs exist? And how much of the program money needs to be spent on such advertising rather than feeding people? Why is the D governor wasting our money on advertisement rather than feeding people with the Federally allocated funds? Doesn't he care about the people that can't eat because he wasted their money?
I recall a few yers ago where a famoly of four froze to death in a car along the road, because the father was to proud to ask for the help he could have received. They ran out of food, and then ran out of gass, and then froze. (the father had already been offered assistance, but declined)

This ad has nothing to do with teenage mothers. Also I have never advocated making abortion illegal. That is just your assumption because I believe in life and promote a different solution.

I will again say it, I am keeping this on point. The ad, as I reported it and as I heard it, says, "I don't absolutely need it, but it is nice when things get tighter." It is an old lady, clearly retired.

Your shotgun approach to argument will not serve you well. You know you make your point poorly and thus begin to 'assume' my opinion then throw things all around hoping they will stick.

Give me a fucking break. Did you even bother to read the Rocky Mountain News article?

It said FEDERAL dollars are not being spent because....

"Counties are a safer bet when it comes to looking for food. They have more flexibility, McDonough said, and can direct people to food banks or provide vouchers for meals.

In contrast to the federal program, the city and county of Denver continues to draw more people each year to its hunger programs, said Roxane White, manager of Denver Human Services. "

"Competition between agencies could be one reason, said Leo Lesh, executive director of enterprise management at Denver Public Schools. When children and their parents come to a school for a federally funded lunch, they are allowed only to eat, then must leave so staff can clean up.

But if they go to a church, a club or a recreation center, they get the same food, but they also can participate in programs, play basketball or go swimming. "

So gee golly, those lousy clubs/rec centers and churches are feeding people, so we have to get the people back to using federal tax dollars.... let's advertise....

The ad would not convince this guy to ask for help.

Like I said, it is likely to do with allocation. If they don't spend the money, they won't get that same amount next year. Therefore, advertising is a good way to waste the cash.

Exactly... and if by chance the ads get more people to sign up and they run out of cash in the program... well..... just blame Bush.

I read the whole article including the part about people feeling ashamed and the stigma attached to welfare these days. Did you?
