Papal front runners. If the Black guy becomes the next pope, white Republicans will scream DEI till their buttholes explode

I'm not talking about now really... Though much of their trappings are the same. I am talking about the time Lutheran hammered that message onto the church doors...

His belief that religion was "for all" (sola)... They translated the Bible into the language of the people, stopped having Priests be the only path to reading and understanding the Bible... However the trappings remained largely the same. Priests, give them confessions, stand up sit down services (in the language of the people instead of Latin)... The rote teaching... Much remained the same.
I thought the Latin word "for all" was "omnibus." Sola means alone.

You're just dumb. If the teaching was that that people are saved by grace, faith, scripture, Christ and the glory of God, it would make sense. It's using the word "alone" with each one of these that's the inconsistency. If you can be saved by GRACE ALONE, why do you need the other four?
th

The WORD alone? Then no need for five solas.
Says the people that follow the pope's catechism.

:dunno:

Now that Catholics also teach in the same language of the people I would wonder if it had been that way during Luther's time would there even BE a Lutheran church? His main objection seemed to be that the word is the only thing God left us so it should be available to all (the first of the Solas, Sola Scriptura)...

I specifically asked you about Sola Scripta or do you believe in tradition over scripture?
You're being deliberately obtuse or willfully ignorant. Which is it? You've been moving the goalposts with every comment. Furthermore, you've been 100% critical of Catholicism, yet apparently you think questioning any other religion is off limits.

The Catholics had a "lock" on interpreting the Bible until the printing press came along.

Correct. It doesn't say "faith alone," "hope alone," or "love alone."
that verse is not the only verse that speaks to that.

"no man comes to the father but by Me"... is the basis for "Faith Alone", you must have Faith in Christ to receive his Grace... there is no "hope alone" portion of the Solas...

  • Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone): The Bible is the sole and final authority for Christian faith and practice.
  • Sola Fide (Faith Alone): Salvation is received through faith alone, not by works.
  • Sola Gratia (Grace Alone): Salvation is by God’s grace alone, an unmerited gift.
  • Solus Christus (Christ Alone): Jesus Christ is the only mediator and savior for humanity.
  • Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone): All glory is due to God alone for salvation and all aspects of life.

Nope. Anyone that ignores the 4th Commandment isn't following God's word. It just so happens that the Catholic church started that tradition. And since almost all protestants can trace their roots back to the Catholic Church they took false teachings with them.

Mar 7:13
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Does the term "fundie" annoy you?
No, I just define it differently. I am working with the definition of another so I am quoting.

I think there are as many Catholic fundies as there are LDS fundies, and they believe different stuff by a massive margin. Some fundies think that Matt. 27:25 means that "Jews killed Jesus"... others focus on other "fundamental" ideas and ignore other parts of the bible. I think of "fundies" as folks with a singular focus on just one specific aspect of the Bible to the detriment of others, they call these ideas "fundamental"...

You know I'm talking about the word "alone" specifically, not the teachings.

I just don't like all the lies some of these people keep braying. I get it that people are critical, especially after all the pedo priests were exposed, because I'm one of them. But this minutiae about the day of the Sabbath, or the 4th commandment, is just missing the forest for the trees.
Having been a Catholic for a long time, I can attest to the fact that lots of other Christians are trained to hate them. The typical, same old idiots in this thread are just repeating garbage they were told. The day of the Sabbath, for example, doesn't matter to a true Christian nearly as much as behaving like a Christian every day of the week. That should go without saying, yet here we are.
