Paul Draws 5000!

The purpose of our government is outlined and restrained by the Constitution.

I don't choose to call it sacred, but it is our foundation and it must be respected as such.

Bingo. AC is trying to liken it to a religious document and then strike down the straw man by using the term "sacred".

Not at all. There are FAR too many that see far TOO much in government as sacred. What percent of the population would vote for a law to criminalize burning the flag?

Well you should bother them then, instead of trying to pick fights with us about what adjective we use to describe the Constituion.

I did nothing of the sort. None of you said any such thing, and I didn't accuse anyone in particular of doing as such. You jumped to a conclusion, and now, you are trying to paint me as "the bad guy", when you are simply reacting from a PERCEIVED slight, that never actually occurred.

If you object to my premise that respecting and obeying the Constitution somehow defeats its purpose then we can work from there.

If you are going to try to stick sacred in my argument I won't play.

Once again, Warren, I did NOT pick a fight with anyone in particular. I made a reference to people who have a tendency to sanctify government, and threw in "including those who sanctify The Constitution" to separate myself from those who do as such, as I have been known to STRESS The Constitution.

I was simply showing that, although I stress The Constitution to a very strong degree, I do not sanctify it.

You folks are acting as if I have attacked YOU directly, by such a statement, and when I point out that i have done nothing of the sort, you act as if my statements BEFORE the fact, are somehow attacks that are in reference to comments you made AFTER the fact.

What would "sanctifying the Constitution" entail specifically?

The document itself outlines a mechanism for change and adaptation, "sanctifying the Constitution" is a contradiction in terms.

Seriously what are you trying to criticize? How would one sanctify the Constitution?

The flag is a piece of colored cloth, the Constitution is the foundation outlining the relationship between the state and its citizens.

I wouldn't support a "Constitution Burning Amendment" so if that's your only example of sanctification then we can be done with this ridiculousness.

Try to be a little less defensive. No one was attacking you, or any group you may be a part of. it was a generic statement, covering bases, and the only partisan tilt was an implied reference to Flag-Mongers.

Read it for what it said, not what you suspect it might have been implying.
