The Crimson Tide to be an offensive powerhouse?

The defense has so many new players and the offense has so many weapons, it looks like the O side of the ball may carry the team.

The first scrimmage showed McElroy passing for big yards, and the best tandem set of RBs in the game running well and catching passes out of the backfield.

Saban is known for working with what he has got. He is not married to any certain style.

Should be interesting.

we signed Philip Rivers little brother who will be better than anything Ohio slow has had in a long time. Jordan Jefferson is only a junior and should be better than last year. Nice to see Mott is still suffering the vicious beat down we put on them.

Topper, how is the Les Miles fan base looking? How many games does he have to win to stay on as head coach? Surely he is on the hotseat.

So, you say they're really into socialism? :cof1:
Go see for yourself. Live in rural Mercer County Ohio for a year then come back and talk to me. There mackeral snappers there so you'll fit in even though you're a bleeding heart commie pinko liberal socialist by their standards.

That's the big question on Bama. Their defence. They may have the best defensive line in college football but it drops off significantly in talent once you get behind that line. I don't think Alabama will have to much trouble stoping the run but I good passing team could light them up for some points.

I think a team that can execute the spread offense and has a decent defense would give Bama fits by keeping their offense off the field and running the legs off their defense. If I was playing Bama I'd pass early and often to run the legs off their defense and then I'd emphasize the run in the second half.

One of the starters that returned is Mark Barron. He may be the best safety in the SEC. Several other defensive players had significant playing time last year. And with the return of Donte Hightower, the defense is far from weak.

And it will take more than a "decent defense" to keep our offense off the field. Between Ingram and Richardson, we have the best tandem RBs in the NCAA right now. And McElroy is more than capable of lighting up a defense or two on his own. (well, with the receiving corp we have)

I think Bama has reversed it's situation from last year. Their stronger on offense then defense this year. Last year it was the other way around.

I'm trying not to suffer from high expectations about a mythical national championship though. The Big 10, like the SEC, is a tough conference and it's real difficult to win the conference, let alone go undefeated. I'm more focused on winning the conference for the 6th time in a row. That's not going to be easy to do and go undefeated. every team in the conference has us in their cross hairs. So winning the conference and going to the Rose Bowl is the goal. If we go undefeated and go to the BCSCG then that's just the icing on the cake but I'm setting my self up to be dissappointed by expecting an undefeated seeason. Bama fans have the same problem. Win the SEC first and the NCG will take care of it self.

Very true, Mott. The focus must be one winning (or surviving) the conference.

But every year I have hopes of a NC. We have won a few in my lifetime, but I have been disappointed far more often than not.

Such is the nature of being a fan.

This year we have the talent on defense, but they have to gel as a unit. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of time. Penn State will be in Tuscaloosa for the 2nd game of the season. And it keeps getting better after that.

As long as I don't plot to actually socialize the economy, I can live with that...

Sept 11 we'll have a good idea of how good both of our teams really are. At this stage I think you have the tougher match up even if Miami is rated higher that PSU. It's to bad we cant' play Miami in November, hehehehe.

I still chuckle when I think of the bowl game they played against Wisconsin last Year. How embarrasing!

From what I am reading, the Tide's defense is coming together.

Two 5 Star recruits at cornerback will do wonders against the passing game. The best safety in SEC is still here. And the pass rush should have the QB scrambling for cover rather than reading coverage.

We'll find out how good they are Sept 11. PSU is another one of those teams that never rebuild, they just reload.

PSU is gonna be a running team for the most part. Our D Line looks excellent. Cody is gone, but Chapman is a monster at the NG position. Barring injury we should be able to stuff the run pretty well.

The game against Arkansas scares me more. Its the week before the Gators come to Tuscaloosa, and Mallett may be the best QB we face all year.
