Surprise! Massachusetts pushes for spanking ban

Well it is just my OPINION that weak parents hit their kids because they are too lazy or don't know how to communicate with their kids.

It is my OPINION that violence teaches violence.

Nothing you guys are going to say will change my OPINION so I'll just leave it at that.

How do you account for a lot of inner city kids who were not only not spanked but often didn't even have a father with any discipline. Violence (and crime) is much higher there.

Also as I recall you only have girls for kids, my oldest daughter behaves as soon as I raise my voice and my youngest daughter is always looking to help out. Boys can require more discipline.

most of the inner city kids I see get their a$$ beat and their parents don't spend much time teaching them right from wrong because more often than not one of them is in jail or not around.

Well since attitudes have gone "anti-spanking" violence has increased. You're entitled to your fanciful opinions, as wrong as they may be.

Charge the parents with abuse and neglect? What a crazy pack of extremists. It's small comfort to me that after Britain passed a ban and all the Liberals on here who said "it would never happen here" are wrong yet again.
Great Liberals, send the police to people's homes, take the parents from the children and lock them up for their punishment. I'm sure they'll see much less "abuse" and "neglect" in a group home.

"Lawmakers on Beacon Hill are set to consider a proposed ban on spanking children in the commonwealth.

NewsCenter 5's Shiba Russell reported that the issue is set for debate at a Statehouse hearing Wednesday morning.

The Boston Herald reported that State Rep. Jay Kaufman filed the spanking ban petition at the request of an Arlington, Mass., nurse who wants Massachusetts to become the first state in the country to stop corporal punishment.
If this proposal does become law and parents are caught hitting their children who are under the age of 18 they could be charged with abuse or neglect. "

This is why I consider Liberalism far more scary than anything Conservatives could ever come up with.

Does this include adult spanking as well ?
If so where will the politicians in MA go for their "fun"

My generation got spanked, and we seemed to turn out better than the last crop....

Honestly. I should have been beaten more. Beaten into submission. My truthiness is a liability in this world of lies.

It's a mistake to draw a correlation that "more spanking leads to less societal violence."

There really isn't anything to support that.

Yes there is nothing to support that. Of course violence in our media and computer games has become rampant as well and might be a bigger factor than the spankings....
But so may inputs, who can say for sure?

Hey uscitizen. Good to see you back around today. I was wondering what your take would be on this. Thought I knew what it would be but was wondering just the same. I agree by the way.

Teenage violence is definitely greater today than it once was. Is there a correlation between that and fewer parents using corporal punishment. I can't say. I just know that a good spanking is necessary for some kids at some time or other and I see to little of it today because people are afraid of what folks like Darla, Blackflag, Cypress, etc. would think about it or because they have read some Dr. Spock or Dr. Phil book that says it is bad.

Exactly.

eh I just don't see the difference. I can't hit you but I can hit my kid. Dumb and hypocritical.

anti abortionists say the fetus has rights but I guess after it is born and does something you don't like, feel free to inflict pain with violence.

Funny, because the reverse holds true as well.... pro-abortionists think it is okay to scramble a childs brain, but are repulsed at spanking a kid for disciplinary reasons.
