Talk of bringing back the MILITARY DRAFT even though 13th amendment bans it

The draft should also apply to old people. Not that we should make 75 year olds fight, but they should be required to do community service - say 30 hours every week. I'd love to see billionaires picking up trash on a highway or cleaning a campground outhouse.

Only fucking morons think there will be a draft in the US again anytime soon....probably under a RW dictatorship. LOL

The Supreme Court disagrees with you--REPEATEDLY!

And several of the states at varying times in their history, made military service in the militia compulsory.

the supreme court is not the final arbiter on the constitution. the government was never given power to define it's own limits

The idiot TDAK is hardly the source I would use to interpret the 12th Amendment.

First of all, 18 is too young to start college.
Away from home for the first time, free to do anything one wants, a large percentage of kids fuck up right away as freshman.
I'd love to see a stat as to what percentage of hospital stomach pump outs are 18/19 year first semester college freshmen.

Second, beginning a career too far before the age of thirty is also a mistake.
As big a mistake as extending it much past the age of sixty. Calvinist work ethic is a disease.

While being drafted was the nadir of my life, that was because of an extremely unjustifiable war, not merely because of conscription.
Make public college, at least, free. But first, pay for it with some sort of mandatory public service--both sexes--right after high school.
Also, pay for graduate school with public service afterward--like working for the national health service for a minimum of ten years after medical school.

Libertarians don't like to be governed. They prefer to totally fuck up their lives on their own, which is exactly what they do.
If we wish to be civilized, we must accept a little structure in the social contract.

All this war talk from Pedodent Biden is making WW3 look more and more likely . The draft is clearly banned by the constitution if that matters.

https://www.usconstitution.net/xconst_Am13.html

1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

That's pretty clear cut. But we have had many drafts since the 13A was ratified in 1865. The govt ignores the constitution whenever it pleases.

I agree the wording suggests it would ban a draft, but if you look at the notes and intent of those who wrote it, that was not their intent.

Right-wingers don't know what they are talking about. Right-wing fantasy is all they know.

The People are the Militia. You are Either, well regulated and Necessary or unorganized and worthless to the security of Any free State.

I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials."— George Mason, in Debates in Virginia Convention on
Ratification of the Constitution, Elliot, Vol. 3, June 16, 1788

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

It is. You are not. Your ridiculous posts uses the exact language that the court cases defined. the Supreme ct is the final arbiter. https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/...iter of,Justice Charles Evans Hughes observed.

it is the absolute height of stupidity to believe that we the people would create a government with severe limitations spelled out in a legal document then hand over the power to define those limitations to that same government........anyone who actually believes that bullshit is a failure as an American

Nonsense. The 13A was ratified right after the end of the civil war where both sides employed a draft. If the writers wanted the draft exempted they would have said so just like they exempted involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime.

The authors of the 13A meant to ban the draft.

There is no final arbiter on the constitution. Back in 1803 the SC just GRANTED itself that power.

So you agree that have that power, regardless of how it was obtained. Can you find the logical inconsistency in your post? It seems blatant to me.
And the states drafted citizens to fight in the Revolutionary war.

I am not sure I understand that point of view. Are we a nation of (written) laws or not?

HAHAHA. You stupid moron. Jury duty is not voluntary for most people and it doesn't matter if they pay you or not. If you are forced to do it, it is involuntary servitude. You are the biggest moron here at JPP.
States have a right to a well regulated militia. It says so in our Second Amendment. We should not have security problems for right-wingers to be drama queens about.

Yes but what does that have to do with the draft? You don't need a draft to have a militia. THINK
The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.

You're evading the question. You don't need a draft to have a militia. THINK
