The US military has three peacetime components and adds a fourth in wartime.
The active military. The Army, Air Force, Navy (including Marines), and as of late, the Space Force. These are limited, with the exception of the Navy, to a two-year budget and are full time services.
The reserve. These are federal forces that supplement the above services.
The National Guard. This is the Organized Reserve. The states control their respective National Guard components in peacetime and these become nationalized in wartime coming under federal control. It is not a full time standing army but rather, parttime, meeting regularly for drill and training.
The last component is the Militia that is formed in wartime as the Army of the United States. This is for all intents, the draft. It is one of the duties of a citizen in exchange for the privileges of citizenship.

A strong judiciary is a counterbalance to the rampant greed and selfishness of congress and potentially the executive. 3 equal branches. Again, it is the absolute height of stupidity to believe that the framers would create a LIMITED government and then hand over the power to define those limits to that very government. They do not have that power, they've stolen it from we the people. we the people are the final arbiter of the constitution. we the people wrote the constitution, not the supreme court.
