The left sneers at those who do not have college degrees.

That’s false. What gets mocked are the teachers union who fight against change and any competition. What also gets mocked are white liberals who claim to support public education but send their kids to private school or move to wealthy largely white suburbs that have good public schools. Then these folks want to lecture others? Please.

Complete horseshit.

The truth is a lot of smart people would go nuts working in an office or a lab. We are all different. Work choice is often something a person just falls into. Often we just learn to avoid some jobs after trying them.
How many want to be a proctologist? It pays well? How many want to be a gynecologist? How many want to build houses? How many want to be plumbers? Some people love it.
What profession someone is in is not that revealing about what the person is like.

That's one reason to support trade/occupational training schools the same way we support traditional schools. My late husband was one of the smartest ppl I've ever known. He sucked at academics and joked about how he wouldn't have even graduated h.s. if his algebra teacher hadn't hired him to paint his house over the summer, and gave him a break. But he could build a multi-level deck from scratch just by drawing it on a piece of paper.... and did. He could tear down a motorcycle to its nuts and bolts, fix what was ailing it, and put it back together with nothing left over.... and did. He could fiddle with your ailing computer for a few minutes, then dive into its OS and BIOS and fix what was bogging it down.... and did. Completely self-taught. He read manuals for fun.... and remembered every salient thing in them. I admire ppl who can do that kind of stuff as much as I do someone who can describe a black hole using only mathematics. Probably more, because the former is far more useful. lol

What do you disagree with?

The right denigates teachers, pal. That they make so much money for so little work. They denigrate the PROFESSION, pal.

How about this favorite RW mantra? “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.”

Pal? Why so personal?

That’s a right wing mantra? My father was a tenured professor and I’ve heard him use that phrase (and he was no right winger).

The right doesn’t denigrate teachers. I said what they go after “pal”.

And the issue being discussed was how those who have a college degree and those who don’t are treated

So, your father admitted he was a failure? A “can’t do”? Sad

The right CONSTANTLY denigrates teachers. If you have missed that fact, it’s because you aren’t paying attention.

The OP is that the left “sneers” at those without a degree. Just another lie from one of your RW pals, pal.

Actually he left teaching and started a very successful business so he’s done quite well for himself and can speak from experience for his industry.

I pay plenty of attention to education domer. I know all about the political hypocrisy in education, “pal”. You might want to heed your own advice

“Sneer”

Sure, pal.

You notice there is no response.
I’ve never seen a diploma stating the degree was a BS “plus”. Plain horseshit.

I have not either. Some ppl dual-major, and of course there's the summa and magna cum laude honors. I'm curious to see what, if anything, Grumpy says in response to my post mentioning how he started a thread to mock me going back to university in my 60s, and how I was awarded an academic scholarship (which I did not apply for) -- and how that is somehow robbing some kid of an education. Yet he's getting a masters in engineering on line in his 70s. I wonder why one is okay and the other is not. ???

Shit Don't Stink Syndrome, is rampant with conservative posters online. So it's always a possibility, one should always consider.

For sure, for sure. Hypocrisy and irony are rampant both in this thread, on this board, and in conservative politics in general. Liberals though don't get a pass either. It's true that some lefties here do mock the Toadstool's beloved "poorly-educated" base.

Left, right or in between, democracy will survive if only common ground can be found among these diverse ideals instead of engaging in divisiveness that only serve the desires of America's internal and external enemies.

It's not on the initial diploma....I'm surprised you're not familiar with the term...
I'm a retired teacher...You?

Another example of false resentment from the American conservative, no one 'sneers' at non college grads, some of the wealthiest and most famous people in America never finished college. College has become for the conservative elite as well as the liberal elite a symbol and a door opener. Today a MS is even better, it show you really did do something even if the something means nothing. I managed a lot of people and my HS grads were often as good or better than those with degrees. But right wing conservatives must whine so whine on.

LOL my look at college. https://www.justplainpolitics.com/showthread.php?50494-Education-For-A-Republican

I wouldn't know. So if you're supposedly getting a masters degree on line, in your 70s, why on earth were you mocking me a while back for getting an academic scholarship and working towards a BS on campus? There sure was a lot of speculation as to how I was allegedly pushing some poor kid out of a spot (not true) and "Why would some old retired person want another degree?" and so on.

My reason was very simple not long before you were bragging about being worth a million bucks. If someone has that kind of money why do they need a scholarship? After all there are only so many scholarships so need should be a consideration. As to me getting another degree, it's simply something I have always wanted but never had the time to complete. But I can say the same about your search for a degree. Why does a woman in her 60s need to go to campus and get a degree? See it works both ways.
