The Positive side of COVID-19

Revolt against what? God? Your blind and misplaced optimism is disgusting.

Can't revolt against God. It's like an amoeba revolting in your toilet. It's an impossible to fight to win. Not a loss either, but certainly not win.

Albert Camus once wrote “There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide”. If life is not worth living to someone, they should consider a painless existence in death. There are several easy ways to end it... and, yes, it's 100% painless once crossing that threshold. In fact, like coming out of the heat on a hot day into a cool room and a cold beverage, it's quite pleasant, but that's just because the pain of living has ceased.

... and platoons of lawyers and bankers carrying $$$ in golden boxes.

Agreed, but all hired by his family members. Like catching COVID-19, Trump is so delusional he thinks no one can touch him. Like his 2016 campaign, the guy genuinely doesn't give a fuck about anything except his money and his ego.

And staying out of prison, which is why he is desperate to win in November. I expect that we will see more crazy shit as the time gets closer. Vote-by-mail may become a huge battle, too.

LOL. No doubt his family worries about it, but Trump doesn't. He's thinks he's bulletproof. To a certain degree he is; a billion septuagenarian "in ill health" can certainly keep his penalty down to house arrest at his NY Penthouse.

I did absentee balloting for almost two decades. What's the problem?

Yep, assuming the money doesn't run out. I can see certain of his spawn getting him declared incompetent so they get control.

There is no problem, except to #COVID45 and some of his followers. They believe that if we allow vote-by-mail this year they won't win.

"President Donald Trump said that if the United States switched to all-mail voting, “you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

"The GOP speaker of the House in Georgia said an all-mail election would be “extremely devastating to Republicans.”

"Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., said universal mail voting would be “the end of our republic as we know it.”

As bad as you imagine that the situation is it is almost surely worse. I have been one of the most sure that America was going the wrong way person in every room I have been in for most of my life, but these last few years have shown me that I was way too optimistic.

The money for that is there. OJ only needed $10M to literally get away with murder. That's $16M in today's money and the Trump fleeces customers for that much once a quarter. They'll be fine. No doubt that's what his kids want, but they won't do it until it's so obvious others bring it up. They get their cowardice from their father.

The British monarchy has a long tradition of military service, but there has only been one woman from the British royal family to ever serve in the Armed Forces, and she’s the only head of state to have served in World War II.

Isn't that up to the states to set up absentee balloting standards under general Federal rules? As long as the applicable rules are followed, I fail to see why Trump can stop it. If he tries, it just makes him look weak, spineless and scared.

I believe that the states determine how voting will take place. Which is why I think there's going to be a battle royale about it. The (R) states are not going to go for it because they fear that they'll lose.

Never knew that about the Queen. Lovely!

I'm currently watching the "Influenza 1918" episode of "American Experience" (available for viewing online here: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/influenza/ ) It first aired over two years ago January 2018. It's interesting to see lots of similarities between then and now, especially the stupid mistakes.

As most should know by now, it's misnamed "the Spanish Flu" but the deaths are real. It killed more Americans than all Americans killed in all the wars of the 20th Century.

Kids, being kids, did some strange things. People were dying so fast that small towns were overwhelmed in burying them all. Eventually mass graves were the only recourse. Lots of eyewitness testimony in the episode. One former kid recalled climbing up and down a "pyramid" of pine boxes with his friends. His mother said those boxes were full of bodies and to not walk or play on them. He also recalled losing two of his friends.

Girls playing jumprope created a little ditty to skip rope to:

I had a little bird
his name was Enza
I opened up a window
In flew Enza

Okay, so what's the bright side? I think Americans have been slack and growing soft like pussie cats with too much food in their bowl every day. As much as I like to ridicule the Millennials, they stand a very good chance of becoming this century's "Greatest Generation". They are going through many of the same experiences as the first Greatest Generation.

Another bright side is that, like Pearl Harbor and 9/11, it's a wake up call to America. I hope, and believe, most Americans will pay attention.

Less New Yorkers lol

I'm rather concerned about that too.

We'll be fine. It was a lot worse for those our age the Summer of 1933; middle of the Depression and alcohol was illegal. THAT would have really sucked ass.

At least today's bread lines are in air conditioned automobiles....and we don't have the Dust Bowl. Woot! Lucky us! :)

People in back rooms doing what ever the fuck they want to do then lying about what they did not being a new idea.

Sometimes I wonder if tiffs like this in Congress is just two grifters using sleight of hand to distract us from the real issues. What's the average date cut off for absentee ballots?

Texas rules are easy: https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml
