The Trinity

The New Teatament makes little sense if you believe that Jesus and God are the same being. The idea that Jesus was a divine being isn't a universal belief in the NT. Only "John" makes that claim. Matthew doesn't. Mark doesn't. Luke doesn't.

"Who do they say I am," said Jesus.

The Disciples seem to believe Jesus is the son of God in the synoptic gospels. In Mark , Peter is the first to guess Jesus is son of God.

'Son of God', in it's proper Jewish context, means a human who is acting with divine agency. King David was considered a son of God.

"Some Protestants" also claim Catholics aren't Christians.

I'm not interested in what "some Baptists" say. What is important to me is what is widely believed and understood by theologians, religious historians, major Church leaders.

The link I provided (Encyclopedia Britannica) is also far superior in credibility than the link given here (wicked local.com)

and yet you are lying about what I said.....sucks doesn't it......

That's a bad look for a Christian, even a phony one.

Jesus specially taught to be nonjudgmental.

what's judgemental?....if you refuse to believe in God you aren't going to God's paradise.......simple non judgmental fact......if you want to create your own God you have to create your own paradise as well.......

It is pretty much the DEFINITION of judgemental.

It is not up to you to sit at the Right hand of the Father and to come to judge the quick and the dead.

And it really is one of the worst things many Christians do. It feels like they are fantasizing about people who disagree with them being tortured for eternity. That's why it's not a good look for a Christian. Especially when done with a significant dose of snark and bile.

To be quite honest: it is one of those things that drives some away from religion altogether. Is that the Witness you wish to provide?

Well, that’s pretty much what Spinoza believed. God = the universe. Everywhere. In all things. But, just not a personal, interactive god that Christianity requires.
I think that is mostly a Protestant viewpoint.

In Orthodox Christianity God is remote, unfathomable, unknowable. Human experience with him is never direct and personal, and only mediated through prayer, mysticism, or veneration of saints.

I never met a Christian who did not enjoy telling others they are wrong for not being in their religion.

I have met plenty. There are a lot of Christians who live very exemplary lives and represent their faith in very positive ways. I'm fortunate in that I suppose. Almost all of my friends are Christians.

"Son of God" is something different. In that time, people believed that gods and man interacted regularly. it was common to believe that gods sometimes procreated with humans, creating a half-god/half-man being. Some people were believed to ascend to "god-ness" after death. What John, and only John, is claiming is that Jesus was a preexistent, divine being that actually was God.

I'd be curious to know where you live that this is happening EVERY single time you encounter a Christian and the topic of religion comes up.
I'm curious too. I live in Texas and know many Christians. Not a single one of them has chided me for not going to church or believing as they do. Not once in 28 years.
