Police are searching for a woman — allegedly a supporter of presidential candidate Donald Trump — who assaulted a Muslim woman in Washington.

The Metropolitan Police Department released a video Monday that shows the assailant yelling at the Muslim woman outside a Starbucks.

“A Caucasian lady with blond hair walked right past me,” the Muslim woman, who was wearing a hijab during the the assault, told WJLA. “Then as soon as she sat down she started talking about me. Saying ‘F-ing Muslim. Trash, worthless piece of Muslim trash. You all need to go back to where you came from.’”

The Muslim woman, whose identity has not been made public, managed to record part of the incident.

The MPD is now investigating the incident as a simple assault and a suspected hate crime.

According to David Benowitz, a criminal defense attorney at Price Benowitz LLP, a simple assault charge in D.C. requires evidence of “physical touching or attempted physical touching” or “words or actions that create a reasonable fear of bodily injury.” Benowitz explained that when the assailant poured liquid over the Muslim woman’s head, it “definitely” warranted a charge of simple assault, because the assailant “crossed into that person’s physical space.”

The attack comes amid a frightening surge in anti-Muslim rhetoric from Trump and others in the Republican primary, as well as a corresponding rise in violence directed at American Muslims.

It took more than 100 firefighters to fight back the flames that consumed more than 40 acres of grass and marsh in Maine last month. Now officials say it was one of their own who started it.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, authorities took Old Orchard Beach Fire Chief Ricky Plummer into custody on an arson charge.

A woman approached by a man holding a basket full of razors in the bikini section of a Target store caught him on camera.

Candice Spivey recognized Jeffrey Polizzi, 31, as the same creep who asked her indecent questions at a grocery store two years ago, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Polizzi, who was convicted of video voyeurism in 2009, can be seen on Spivey’s cell phone video telling her, “You want to make sure it’s not too sheer or clear.”

Polizzi reacted in horror when she asked him if he remembered the earlier encounter. He dropped the basket, ran out of the store and sprinted out of the parking lot as Spivey yelled, “Get this guy! Stop him! Stop this guy! Call the cops!”

Police later arrested him on reckless driving charges, according to the sheriff’s office. Spivey said an officer driving to the scene spotted Polizzi when he sped his truck out of the parking lot and onto a nearby highway to try to flee.

Spivey chased “after his sorry ass because I wanted his tag info,” she wrote in a Facebook post with the video, which has been viewed over 1.7 million times.

“I wanted this guy caught. There was something not right about him,” Spivey said in the post. “He has approached minors as well, and there's no telling how he could easily manipulate a young mind and how far he could take the situation.”

Spivey said Polizzi had first spoken to her at a Publix grocery store where he was banned for harassing her with questions about panties.

“Hey there I don't mean to bother you but I just bought this dress for my wife and I was kinda worried about the sheerness of it,” she said Polizzi had said with his shopping cart full of razors. She said Polizzi then asked if his wife needed to shave “down there” and whether Spivey was wearing panties.

Polizzi took pictures of women in changing rooms at another store in 2009, according to court records cited by ABC News. Efforts to reach Polizzi were not successful.

Memphis flight attendant has been indicted on charges she stole close to 1,500 mini-bottle of liquor from Delta Airlines.

Rachel Trevor, 28, faces criminal charges of theft of property over $10,000, unlawful sale of alcohol, and unauthorized transportation of alcohol and unauthorized storage of liquor for sale.

Investigators with the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission said that after a flight Trevor would put the 50ml bottles of rum, vodka, gin, whiskey and other alcoholic beverages in her bag.

Trevor would, according to them, post them for sale on Craigslist.

A man accused of shooting two police officers, one in the face and torso and the other in the leg, is facing two counts of attempted capital murder.

Ian MacPherson was arrested early Friday after a three-hour pursuit that left Manchester, the state’s largest city, on edge for hours more. He shot Officers Ryan Hardy and Matthew O’Connor, authorities said. Hardy was hospitalized in stable condition, and O’Connor has returned home.

Hardy stopped MacPherson on the city’s West Side around 2 a.m. because he matched the description of a suspect in a gas station robbery the day before, police Chief Nick Willard said. MacPherson began to shoot at Hardy as soon as the officer announced himself, striking him in the face and torso, police said.

After being shot, Hardy called in MacPherson’s description and the direction in which he ran, Willard said.

“Officer Hardy’s reaction to being shot is beyond courageous, it’s remarkable,” Willard told said Friday afternoon in an emotional news conference.

About 20 minutes later, MacPherson encountered O’Connor and shot him in the leg before fleeing. O’Connor returned fire, Willard said, but MacPherson was not shot or wounded during his encounter with police.

Willard did not provide details on how and where MacPherson was caught or what type of weapon he used in the shooting. He praised all of the officers involved for their pursuit of MacPherson.

“They continued at their own peril to pursue a subject who shot two officers,” he said. “I cannot express deeply enough my profound respect.”

The Virginia lawyer accused of invading a McLean couple’s home by using a Taser, holding them hostage for three hours, then slashing one victim’s throat and repeatedly stabbing the other plans to use the defense of “involuntary intoxication” at his trial, starting Monday in Fairfax County.

Andrew Schmuhl of Springfield, a 32-year-old former judge advocate and military magistrate in the Army, attacked the couple because the man had recently fired Schmuhl’s wife from an Arlington law firm, Fairfax prosecutors said.

The wife, Alecia Schmuhl, 31, waited outside and drove the rented getaway car after the incident, which ended when they were pulled over on the Capital Beltway and Andrew Schmuhl was found to be wearing only a diaper, according to police and prosecutors.

His lawyers have said that he suffered a spinal cord injury in a 2012 accident and court records show he had been receiving disability payments and not working since then. The defense’s pleadings state that they want a mental health expert to testify that the effects of various medications Schmuhl was taking caused him to be so intoxicated he was unaware of what he was doing during the three-hour assault on the McLean couple.

hijab14n-1-web.jpg

Near the end of his Southwest Airlines flight from Chicago to Albuquerque, Gill Parker Payne decided he had to take action.

Seated a few rows in front of him was a woman he had never met before. She was wearing a religious headscarf, known as a hijab, which Payne recognized as a Muslim practice. He stood up, walked down the aisle and stopped next to her seat. Looking down at the woman, Payne instructed her to remove the covering.

“Take it off! This is America!” Payne, 37, later recalled saying. When she didn’t do it herself, Payne did: He grabbed the hijab from the back and pulled it all off. Violated, the woman, identified by the Justice Department only as K.A., quickly pulled the hijab back over her head.

On Friday, as part of a plea deal with the federal government, Payne pleaded guilty to obstructing the woman’s exercise of her religious beliefs. “Because I forcibly removed K.A.’s hijab, I admit that the United States can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that I intentionally obstructed K.A.’s free exercise of her religious beliefs,” he said in a written statement in the plea agreement.

Lompoc resident Mario Saldivar, 24, was arrested Monday morning at a residence in the 500 block of North L Street. He's accused of robbery, burglary and leading authorities on two different pursuits.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit began at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday when a Lompoc police officer saw a stolen pickup truck at the corner of North O Street and Oak Avenue. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver sped off.

"A pursuit ensued and ended with the suspect driving through a lettuce field in the 2600 block of W. Central Avenue causing several thousand dollars in damage," said Sheriff's Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover. "The suspect fled on foot and despite an extensive search that included assistance from the California Highway Patrol, the Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the suspect was not located."

Later that afternoon, the suspect was found inside a home in the 2200 block of De Wolff Avenue in the city of Lompoc by the homeowners. The suspect fled the home into the nearby riverbed.

Despite a thorough search that involved personnel from the United States Air Force Security Forces, the suspect was not located, and the search was called off after several hours due to the heavy brush and thick mud in the area.

A Waffle House waitress trying to return a lost cell phone to its rightful owner helped Mobile County deputies arrest a man accused of possessing child pornography, authorities said Tuesday.

David Sevier, 52, of Grand Bay was arrested, said Mark Bailey, an investigator with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office Detective Unit.

Sevier had been eating at the Waffle House and left without taking his cell phone. When a waitress went through his phone to recover the identity of the owner, she saw photos of a naked girl who didn't appear to be above the age of legal consent.

A search warrant was awarded for the phone and a forensic analysis recovered about two dozen nude photos of the same victim. The Mobile County Sheriff's Office later concluded that the victim was 14-years-old.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department says they have solved a string of burglaries with the arrest of two men.

Kurtis Michael Gunkel, 41, of Warsaw, and Eric Warren Swick, 35, of Macy, were both arrested and charged with felony burglary.

These arrests wrap up a month-long investigation into thefts and burglaries in North of Webster, the Barbee Lake and Shoe Lake areas.

Police say the case was sparked by a concerned fisherman who saw a burglary in progress.

He called police, and he was able to give them cell phone pictures of the suspects.

Those photos led officers to Gunkel and Swick.

During the course of the investigation, officers found numerous stolen items like televisions, power tools, chain saws, and even fishing gear.

Police said the pair are responsible for more than $20,000 worth of items stolen since the beginning of April.

A Virginia Tech freshman charged in connection with the slaying of a 13-year-old middle school girl told police that the secret plotting of the teen’s death gave her “the best feeling,” a detective testified here Friday morning. Natalie Keepers, 19, described herself as a “sociopath in training” who had a special bond with David Eisenhauer, the Virginia Tech student accused of stabbing the girl and hiding her body in January.

Eisenhauer, 19, an engineering freshman from Columbia, Md., is charged with abduction and first-degree murder after he allegedly met Nicole Lovell online, developed a relationship with her and ultimately decided to kill her. Keepers, of Laurel, Md., is charged with accessory before the fact and concealing the body. Montgomery County (Va.) Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt said Keepers helped Eisenhauer plan the killing and then helped try to cover it up.

A suspected white supremacist who wears a Hitler mustache is facing numerous charges after a large cache of weapons and ammunition was found in New Jersey woods.

Police say officers in a multi-agency task force were in the Pinelands region looking for trespassers and criminal activity when they came across a suspicious vehicle.

They soon found Bruce Post III dressed in combat gear and another man nearby. Post wore a short mustache centered over his top lip, just like the one associated with Adolf Hitler.

Investigators found an AK-47, a 9mm handgun, eight 30-round magazines, a 100-round drum magazine and other ammunition they say was hidden in the woods. The items were found near the vehicle where the two men were discovered.

A man was arrested and faces multiple charges including attempted indecent liberties with a minor, according to authorities.

Police assisted in executing a search warrant, seizing electronic devices from the home of Christopher Samuel Hawthorne, 41, authorities said.

For the past few months, the Sheriff’s Office conducted online investigations into persons who target children for exploitation, the Sheriff's Office said. Detective Darryl Wells portrayed juveniles in various social media and chat rooms to identify and locate individuals who are interested in such activity.

Hawthorne was caught in the sting operation and was placed under arrest.

A gruesome murder in Texas was posted on the victim’s Facebook page by her accused killer.

In a pair of chilling photos, Kenneth Alan Amyx posted Sunday through his girlfriend Jennifer Streit-Spears’s Facebook account: One of him covered in blood, one of her dead body, with a caption reading, “Please pray for us.”

When Plano police arrived on Sunday morning, officers found Amyx with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds. Streit-Spears was nearby, fatally stabbed to death, police spokesman David Tilley told the Daily News.

When Streit-Spears’s sister, who called 911, saw the photos online, she was horrified.

During the arrest, police learned that Amyx was wanted for serious sex crimes — one in Rockwall County for continued sexual abuse of a child, and one in Dallas County for indecent exposure to a child.

A man was hit with attempted murder charges after he was allegedly caught on camera plowing over a motorcycle with his car in a crazy hit-and-run in Florida.

The shocking incident happened at the intersection of U.S. Route 41 and County Line Road in Lutz.

Video recorded by Abe Garcia shows a man in a silver Pontiac driving over two people on a motorcycle.

Florida Highway Patrol collared the road rager — later identified as Robert Vance, 31 — down the road.

A highway dispute sparked the jarring run-in, Garcia said.
