That actually does seem pretty low for such a popular tourist destination. And they lump rape and attempted rape into the same category.

The dramatic increase is kidnappings is a little worrying, though, and I wonder if that has anything to do with Mexico's drug war spilling over into the US.

Did any of the links break it down by national park? I just checked out one link.
I figure the crime rate might vary due to proximity of certain urban centers and such.

Was anyone else not aware that the US national parks include parks in the Virgin Islands and Somoia?

Just curious, what information are you using that prompts you to use words like "many/most"??

Observations of those around me in life mostly. Sporting magazines etc.

Most around here pay someone to cut up their deer.
If the deer is a first one or a good one the head is stuffed and mounted. (good eating there).
Extensive Camos , deerstands, etc seem to be required equipment.
The liscence and tags alone are not cheap and must be figured into the cost.
And an 8-10K 4 wheeler to carry their lazy butts in and the deer out.

Me I just have a 4wd wheelchair, but not for hunting.

But I am only picking on the need it for food angle.
My fish I catch cost a lot per pound as well once all the costs are figured in, but I don't claim to need them for survival food.

btw I have eaten Bear and it is not very good about like groundhog. Must be mostly a macho thing to kill them.

Using your way of thinking, that sure is an awfull lot to pay just for a fish!!

I mean; why do you need a $10,000 4 wheeler, $300 in poles and lures, $500 waders, $40,000 boat, plus the cost of the boat trailer. I week trip a state or so a way to fish. Liscence, tag , etc...

Wind up with about 5 lbs of filets.

Fishing is not an economical way for most to go.

Why do you get upset when someone uses your own line of reasoning, in an attempt to show you how much in error you are??

Reasoning? You would not understand that.
You throw back conjecture and stupidity on you replies.

Why would I need a 4 wheeler to fish?
Where did I say anything about having a 40K boat or even using a boat to fish? or going to other states to fish? I will be going to fish in FL this winter while snowbirding and hanging with friends down there.

But yet; you were ready to say that the most hunters needed what you suggested and then you get upset, when the same is suggested about you.

Why??

Can you imagine what the kid felt? First extreme excitement, "Gotcha! My first trip, I got one!" pulls the trigger, hears screams... "That doesn't sound like a bear..."

It's a person... From on top of the world to utter devastation in seconds. Then the realization that you are going to have to face up to this...

I feel for everybody involved.

yep, it was a very unfortunate accident that will affect these two families for life. and especially the kid who pulled the trigger..real shame

His parents are undoubtedly rightwingers, 14yr old hunting shooting at noise.
yeah we need more guns.

Ohh the old everyones a victim theme.
Amd here I was thinking that was a liberal thing?

The kid deserves to pay, the real victim and family does not.
