What are the Dems up to threatening Turkey?

We simply disagree. My entire life experience informs me that sovereign governments don't committ to war and bloodshed, because of a resolution in a legislative body half a world away. Govermnet's engage in military action for more tangible reasons. Turkey will commit to military action because of the PKK, not because of nancy pelosi.

As for concern for the troops, you've been arguing since the days of politics.com to leave our troops in iraq. I was arguing to get them out. So, which of us did more harm to the troops? :pke:

There is bad blood between the Armenians and the Turks, just as there is between the Turks and the Kurds. In the 70's and Armenian terrorist group assassinated 40 Turkish diplomats. To this day Armenia does not recognize Turkey's borders, so we want to stick our noses in that bad blood and Turkey is going to be pissed. Yes, they will fight a war they've been WANTING to fight but kept out of because we have been diplomatic and kept them out of it. Now, they don't care about our diplomacy....

When Damo first made this statement:

"No, the Dems, in this very thread, multiple times told us that they 'don't care' that it might effect the soldiers negatively."

I assumed he mispoke. At this point, I have to belive that he was in fact, being deliberately dishonest about what I said, and continues to be so while SF backs him with his own BS lies.

You can continue jerking each other off on this thread, but I'm leaving it not because "you won", but because there is nothing I can do about two liars, other than cursing you both out, and I don't feel like having my blood pressure shoot up because DAmo and SF are pathetic liars, who don't care abotu the troops because they don't want them home.

You know what sf, only idiots work with genocidal freaks who threaten more genocide if you tell the truth about past genocide. Your neocon strategies suck. Just so you know.

Your "the jews are gunna get me" theories are quite sad. I am hardly a "neo-con" you ignorant ass. The Turks are not threatening genocide. They are threatening to strike back at the Kurds due to the Kurds attacking them. Those alive today are also not responsible for actions taken by their ancestors almost 100 years ago. There is NO need for a politician to "state it is genocide" for us to KNOW it was genocide. If the Turks choose to deny it, then us screaming at the top of our lungs that is was accomplishes WHAT?

ESPECIALLY at a time when we are desperately trying to avoid escalation between the Turks and Kurds. The only thing this accomplishes right now is an increase in danger to our troops. That is all.

Side note: by your standards you are also responsible for genocide. As are all British and French and Japanese and Chinese etc..... so are we to go around pointing fingers at one another and refusing to work with each other because of atrocities committed in the past?

I think anybody who supports anyone in our congress that either supported this war, supports continued funding of this war, and supported this stupid resolution dealing with Turkey ought not to have an oppinion too.

If that is your way of placing some litmus test on me DAve, you better read what I said again.

I didn't say he can't have an opinion. What i said is, number one, he can't lie about what I said. And number two, war supporters can no longer hide behind "support the troops".

I don't know what is wrong with you men that you can't read today, but maybe you all better get your hands out of your pants, and start using the noodle that is between your ears instead.

Please darla.... run away .... it is what you dems are good at. Don't defend your earlier comments.... that is ok... we have come to expect that from Dems like you. Just run around and find a thread on a gay Republican... that is more your level.

No, I'm not placing a litmus test on anyone, I'm just grabbing your attention. I've been ignored by you in this thread up to this point while you yell at Damo and SF for saying soemthing stupid. I figured saying something stupid would get that attention I want :)

Does anyone have any evidence that the Turkish resolution authorizing a further incursion into Iraq was in any way, shape of form influenced by Congress not passing a resolution about the Armenian genocide?

If so, please pass it along. I haven't seen it yet.

My experience tells me that a government that was barely holding itself back from doing so because it wanted to for other reasons, will often use such to do what they wanted.

It was easy to predict this as their government warned of consequences and even recalled their ambassador, while at the same time began amassing troops at the border. It is simply disigenuous to pretend that their warnings were just "pretend" that they didn't practically shout to the world what the reaction would be.

We don't just "disagree" you twist this in your mind to make it 'okay'. There was nothing "okay" about this.

You really should admit to Darla that you completely misquoted her.

I wish you'd stop accussing me of dishonesty. First, you're acting like a turkish invasion is imminent. Its not. For all we know, this is standard diplomatic bluster and muscle flexing. Second, I don't believe for a second that turkey will base military decisions because of a resolution in the US.

LOL

You are much cuter than they are, and not nearly as infuriating. Ok? :)

Gee, I don't know what is wrong with you women today. Maybe you better get off your knees and actually think for a change.... nope... obviously all us men know you women are incapable of thought.... so back on your knees.

That was not the original statement. That is pretending that this conversation happened in vacuum.

Saracasm or not, this isn't cool.

Evidence would be that they threatened to do something if we pass that resolution, then they voted on this little tid bit.

We haven't passed the resolution yet, and they authorized the use of force sometime in the next year. Guess we will wait and see if they use it. I don't think they are bluffing on it though....

Right, they may still not attack, and that would be a good thing. However my original assertion as that this non-binding resolution could have this very effect. I was told that first it would not because "they need us more than we need them" and later that it didn't matter because the troops shouldn't be there. I pointed out that the reality is that they are there and this could very seriously negatively effect them, but was told that too didn't matter.

It matters to me.

When such clear cause and effect is happening right before my eyes I will continue to point it out to you regardless of how dishonest to yourself you are being.

You can wish all you want, but the cause and effect is clear, they made it very clear.

1. They said that this could cause repercussions.
2. They began amassing troops on the border.
3. They recalled their Ambassador.
4. They continued to say it could cause repercussions.
5. The vote in the committee passed it to the floor.
6. They voted to allow incursions into the territory that we had been working very hard to keep them from going into because it would cause negative effect to the troops that are, regardless of how we feel about it, actually there.

I'll take that as a no.

Thanks though.
