what was the best time in American history?

deregulation is always you guys idea.

sometimes you have a point and regulations need to be adjusted.

The problem is you don't want any regulation to work and don't act in good faith

Did you say this or not? Do you really mean to tell me that the man who was president for 8 years is not responsible for what occurs during his tenure?

Was Captain Hazelwood responsible for the wreck of the Exxon Valdez or was some previous captain, who hadn't held the helm for more than 8 years responsible?

for them not when they are a republican.

republicans never have a record they can stand by

I find it very interesting that the discussion from the Conservatives has solely centered on economics.

The question was what was the Best time in American History....

Economics is one small factor, in my opinion. More importantly is freedom, opportunity, and happiness. Clearly the present is the best time when you factor in everything and consider ALL AMERICANS, not that I am conceding that Economics are not better than ever before.

If you ask, what was the best time in American History for the Vanderbilts, you would get a different answer than if you asked what was the best time in American history for African Americans, or Gay Americans, or Asian Americans, or Middle Class Americans, or Women Americans.

I agree. When I answered it, I included a wide range of factors, which is why I think now is a good time but that the future will be better.

That's just flat our false and a lie to try and claim Democrats have never proposed deregulation.

Dear Dune... you claimed I stated it was Bush policies that allowed it. That is blatantly false. I also did not state that Bush was not responsible. You seem to be confusing yourself.

The POLICY that led to the collapse was Clintons. That does not relieve Bush of responsibility for failing to act.

Wilson signed the bill remember?

you always say that about Clinton huh

No Desh, I mock you by saying Clinton signed it. I have stated many times that it passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. It is you that pretends it was just Reps.

Which was my point on the CA deregulation which also passed with bipartisan support (this time unanimous) with a Rep Gov signing. Again... BOTH parties, AGAIN... you pretend it was just Reps.

Another blatant lie.

Which part do you think is a lie?

Had you actually read the thread, you would realise that the majority of posters who answered the question chose time periods other than their own lifespans or in some cases, when they would have been too young to know the difference.

Hence your pronouncement is incorrect (as usual) and valueless.

Bullshit. it is for the most part a personal reminiscing thread with the time frames set by each individual poster's life experiences.

The best time in American history was when America was a constitutional republic minus the upcoming technological advancements.

Then it began to regress until the country got to where it is now, a crumbling empire imploding in debt.

Some key historical occurrences that first transformed the country into an empire then into a quagmire.

The war for southern independence.

The reconstruction act of 1867

The passing of the unconstitutional 14th amendment.

The passing of the 17th and the 18th amendments.

The conquest of the Philippines and Cuba .. the Spanish American war.

Teddy Roosevelt.

World War 1.

Woodrow Wilson.

The establishment of the federal reserve national bank.

Franklin Roosevelt.

Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.

This was a thumbnail sketch of America's decline and there were many other incidents contributing to the demise of the empire but these were key events.

lol... who signed the bill repealing it?

The liberals want to give Clinton credit for all the good Congress did in the late 90's, but don't want to give him blame for the bad that Congress did.

I have stated many times that the repeal was done on an overwhelming bipartisan basis. It was.

That said, what I stated was not a lie. So you failed yet again.

Also, too, the week following that day in 1991 that I purchased Nirvana, Nevermind, Pearl Jam, Ten, Guns and Roses, Use Your Illusion I and II and A Tribe Called Quest, The Low End Theory at Wall to Wall Sound and Video was a damn fine time in America.

Edit: My memory is somewhat hazy as to whether Wall to Wall Sound and Video had made the transition to "The Wall" at the time. Nevertheless, it was fucking rad.
