Well, I AM voting for him, Politalker, but I don't know if I'll survive the experience.
Having had to vote for Secretary Clinton plunged me into deep depression, the kind that never really resolves itself.
Then, when the competent but annoying and ideologically unsatisfying bitch lost, the REAL depression set in.

I understand and accept the argument that black people have been set back due to the redlining in the 50's, Segregation etc... my in-laws are in their 70's and grew up in this America so we are not that far removed from it now.

But where is the racism now? Discriminatory housing practices are illegal (as mentioned in this thread), there are affirmative action programs that arguably give black people an advantage over white people, there are hate crime laws, vast amounts of pressure to be politically correct and sensitive to racial issues...

Is this a race issue anymore? Or is it a poverty issue? And if there are more black people in poverty today because of the sins of the past - what is the solution there? The War of Poverty was a huge failure, and arguably made the problem worse (despite what i see as good intentions) so what is the answer?

I do not believe DT has helped the black community. Yes, that propaganda is out there but I don't see the facts to back it up. The president is really good at putting out false information. One thing the president has done has been to make controversial remarks suggesting that white supremacists are 'good people,' which is not true. DT would not be president without the racist vote.

I was very sad for about a week after the 2016 election. Then it was time to pick up the pieces and carry on. Giving up is not an option. Set-backs come during life. It is up to us how we react to them. Every time I am dealt a blow I always consider it as a challenge to be met. You are doing the right thing to vote for Biden. Every cloud has a silver lining. No matter what bad thing happens there is always something good that comes out of it that would not have happened otherwise.

Maybe the eruption of racial tensions is different this time. That video really struck people. The world saw the expression of indifference on the killer's face as he snuffed that life out. That really struck people in a way that is different this time. The whole world is with us now. They are protesting with BLM signs all over the world, do you know that? Maybe because of DT in office, the affront to the sensibilities of good people, and the vividness of that video, there can finally be significant change in race relations because of this. A heavy price to pay, but if something good and lasting comes out of it then that is epic. We do live in interesting times.

Excellent study, good read thank you for that. What i read in that study was that a white high school dropout has more wealth and therefore opportunities than a black kid with a college degree. That difference in wealth removes the white kid from being the "poor white kid" that I am using as my example.

Let me be more specific with my question - in terms of wealth accumulation, does a poor white kid (with a low amount of wealth) have more advantages than a middle-class black kid (with a median amount of wealth)

How about two kids whose wealth is equal, but their only difference is their race?

In terms of Trump helping the black community. Do you not believe the First Step Act or the Opportunity Zones have been helpful to the black community? How about the declining unemployment rate among black americans under his tenure? Or the drop in the poverty rate in 2017 and 2018 under his administration?

I absolutely do not believe we are headed into a new Civil War. Who would be the fighters? Not me. I see nothing to fight over. Most people don't. I want to see healing and peace. I think most people want that.

The protesters who are out there in the daytime are not the ones who are looting at night.

There are no totally 'Blue States' or 'Red States.' Most States have majorities which give them these labels, but the reality is they are all mixed. It is absurd to think that the States would begin dividing up. What would become of all the political minority people in a State? Would all the progressives have to move out? Go pick a 'Blue State' to live in? What of the conservatives in a 'Blue State?' Would they also have to move away from their home? And what of the families with a mix of political persuasions? Are they expected to sever ties?

Totally absurd.

I see those measures as insufficient to address the problem, inflated statistics, part of the con, right wing propaganda. If blacks didn't feel repressed we would not be having all this social tension.

I read that article, thanks. I do not see this as DT doing something for Blacks. He signed it to avoid looking like a racist. It was a bipartisan compromise. Dems wanted to do more, Republicans fought it. A deal was struck to at least do the minimum. It had Republican support, DT signed it. He didn't do anything or take any initiative for Blacks. All he did was avoid making a very public rejection of a bipartisan bill to help minorities. Knowing DT, he could easily have gone either way on it, all according to how well he was polling at the time. Bolton done spilled da beans. Every decision DT makes is based on reelection calculations.

Really, as far as the national budget goes, this funding was chump change. $255 million spread over the whole country? It should have been much more.

The fact that it's not going to happen means people are OK living in a nation where one half genuinely hates the other half, and it's never going to change.
