Why Most Republicans Don’t Like Higher Education

Hello Flash,

I don't think scientists are telling us to be concerned about climate change; and then voting conservative.

Climate change isn't science. The 'greenhouse gas' model denies the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics and the Stefan-Boltzmann law. Science is a set of falsifiable theories, including these laws.

Thanks, Flash:

Maybe the scientists are among the majority of Republicans who do believe in climate change. Believing in climate change does not mean a person necessarily believes the solutions put forth by one party are the right ones.

"More Republicans Than You Think Support Action on Climate Change"

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/29/opinion/sunday/republicans-climate-change-polls.html

"A majority of Democrats and Republicans believe the United States should participate in the Paris climate accord and reduce greenhouse gas emissions regardless of what other countries do."

"In March, well before the most destructive wildfires in California history, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication polled 1,067 registered voters on climate change. The study found that while they disagree on the cause, majorities in both parties agree that the world is experiencing global warming and call for government action to address it."

"The survey also found that majorities in both parties think the government should fund research into solar and wind energy, offer tax rebates to those buying energy-efficient vehicles and solar panels, and encourage schools to teach children about the causes and consequences of global warming, and potential solutions. A majority of Democrats and Republicans believe the United States should participate in the Paris climate accord and reduce greenhouse gas emissions regardless of what other countries do."

"A study conducted in June by Stanford, ABC News and Resources for the Future uncovered a similar trend. It found that 66 percent of Republicans believe the increase in temperature is “mostly or partly caused by humans.” Another poll, released last month by Monmouth University in New Jersey, found that most Republicans now support action on climate change."

"o be sure, not every poll shows the same thing. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll recently asked people if they believed climate change is “serious” and requires “immediate action.” Only around 15 percent of Republicans said yes compared with 71 percent of Democrats. It’s notable that the poll did not ask, as the Yale study did, for views on specific remedies — which is where the two parties seem to find more common ground."

That's good to know!

The Evangelical Rejection of Reason

THE Republican presidential field has become a showcase of evangelical anti-intellectualism. Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann deny that climate change is real and caused by humans. Mr. Perry and Mrs. Bachmann dismiss evolution as an unproven theory. The two candidates who espouse the greatest support for science, Mitt Romney and Jon M. Huntsman Jr., happen to be Mormons, a faith regarded with mistrust by many Christians.

The rejection of science seems to be part of a politically monolithic red-state fundamentalism,

Evangelicals are idiots. "Born again" - what a crock of BS

World revolution would just produce more tyranny in the name of freedom. There are no capitalist armies controlling the working class in Cuba, China, or N. Korea. These are largely socialist nations with little freedom, poor living conditions, and certainly dictatorships that make capitalist countries look tame.

Which capitalists are controlling your life? I think some personalities are more likely to see themselves as having little control over their lives and governed by outside forces beyond their control. They find that others are dictating their lives--astrology, capitalists, religious forces, world bankers.....

There are, you know: you are just misusing language. China, especially, is the second-most-powerful capitalist state in the world. There are no 'socialist nations' - just some, like most of Western Europe, where working-class power has won certain temporary rights until the capitalists can destroy them. It is boss-classes who need a state to protect their thievings - without capitalism, what on earth will we need a state for? The capitalists controlling my life tend to prefer to remain anonymous, but I recall their bullyboys tapping my phone when I was more active, and recall very well their totally-illegal activities during the miners' strike: it's a system, and turns into a police state very swiftly when challenged.

Communism isn't capitalism. Christianity is simply the belief that Jesus Christ exists and He is who He says He is, namely the son of God. No gang needed.

No communism isn't capitalism - that's where there are no communist countries, any more than there are any Christians ones, though it suits some capitalists to use both labels.. I fear that, as an American, you know nothing about either.

China has certainly moved more toward free market capitalism but most of its major industries are still state owned or a large government share of the ownership. A state is needed more for a socialist economic system than a capitalistic one since that is the very definition of socialism.

How do you know it was not government bully boys tapping your phone rather than capitalistic ones? The point is simply that the state is equally oppressive or beneficial in either a capitalistic or socialistic economic system. It is the governmental system that dictates the differences.

Some of us do not believe our lives our controlled by sinister forces over which we have no control. I am free to choose which capitalistic businesses I choose to buy from. If enough of us do not use a certain business, they cease to exist (Woolworths, Blockbuster, Pan Am, Enron, Borders, Foot Locker, Paine Webber).

People who buy a cell phone, TV, video games, attend movies and sporting events and eat at restaurants are all choosing to support and benefit from these capitalistic companies. Nobody is forcing you to support these evil people who are kidnapping workers and forcing them to work at their sweat shop.

There is no such thing as a capitalist state. China isn't capitalist.
There are no 'socialist nations' - just some,
Sure there are. China, for example.

Capitalist doesn't destroy workers. It invites them to join in the creation of wealth that can only come from capitalism.
It is boss-classes who need a state to protect their thievings
Capitalism has no class warfare or classes.

You don't. Capitalism works without a government of any kind.
The capitalists controlling my life
They don't control your life.
tend to prefer to remain anonymous,
Is that why they write books, celebrating and describing their success? Do you consider Dale Carnegie, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Donald Trump, or Arthur Davis anonymous?
but I recall their bullyboys tapping my phone when I was more active,
Crooks tap phones, not capitalists.
and recall very well their totally-illegal activities during the miners' strike:
If their activities are illegal. They can be prosecuted. Criminals aren't capitalists.

Criminal activity is not a police state. You seem to have a very poor understanding of English.

If it does pay its workers enough it wont have any profits. Grow up!

Sure it will. Nothing prevents that. If the workers are paid enough, they will stay. The agreement is between a worker and the person hiring him. Nothing about that prevents profits. Indeed, more workers are hired when a company is making profit.

There are communistic countries (China is one of them). There are Christian countries (the United States is one of them). Nothing about either country forbids other religions or capitalistic elements in a communist country.

False dichotomy fallacy combined with a compositional error fallacy.

Ownership by a capitalist state is neither here nor there - it is a matter of mere capitalist convenience, soaking the mugs for the necessary investment instead of just stealing it. State ownership is the brainwashed American's idea of socialism; actually, it is control by those who do the work. Similarly your fantasies about being 'free': you are manifestly not free to change the system, or even think about it. And as we all know, it is easy to escape capitalist control: like so many Americans you choose the only possible way and shoot yourself.

If you want to discuss anything, stop making lists and talking nonsense. You come over as a drunken maths teacher.

It was just the same in Stalin's gulags. If you didn't like it, you just starved yourself to death.

No - just as there are no Christian countries but many whose capitalists find it convenient to pretend to be that thing, so some claim 'communism'. You have been kept very carefully brainwashed by your masters, haven't you! Oh dearie me! Poor dab!

We are free to change the system. We choose a federated republic for our system. We choose capitalism.

If you like socialism and Marxism so much, go move to such a country. You'll be happier there, at least until you realize what you've lost by living there.
