Why was 2nd amendment written?

Don't make any assumptions here. I am interested in the origins of the 2nd amendment because i find the wording so muddled and people's interpretations of it so different.

I think the gun laws in this country are quite fine the way they are. Maybe some more could be done to try to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, but in general i think the laws are fine.

I mean, really....who sits there and says that the founders feared a standing army, so they wrote the 2nd Amendment, but now that there's a massive standing army, the founders would no longer believe in the 2nd Amendment.............

There's nothing muddled about the wording. The muddling comes from those that hate guns so much they're willing to deprive what the Constitution clearly protects an individual's right to own.

I don't have a problem with keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. The problem is when someone that is mentally ill does something with a gun, those that hate guns want to take away certain kinds from those of us that didn't commit the act while using the isolated incident as motivation.

small correction. they don't hate guns. they know guns will be required to take guns from citizens......they like guns in government hands only.

They do hate guns. They hate lots of things they're willing to use to push their agenda then justify how it's different or OK as long as what they call the greater good is being done.

Simply not true and quite illogical. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_firearm_court_cases_in_the_United_States So toss out the amendment process. They did not write them. Nobody alive wrote any of it.
