This did not age well.
Yost was careful about his lies, which actually proves he knew he was lying. A rape kit is performed immediately after a rape. If the victim does not present immediately after a rape, it is impossible.
But it is also completely unnecessary in this case. A rape kit provides some evidence that sex happened, and who might have been involved in that sex. A pregnant person provides almost absolute evidence that sex happened, and near absolute genetic evidence. And it is all available 7 weeks later, which a rape kit would be useless at.
When doctors see a 10 year old pregnant girl, it is beyond a reasonable doubt rape. There are possible ways for a 10 year old to get pregnant without rape, but they are very unlikely. It was completely reasonable for the many doctors, nurses, social workers, etc involved to assume it is rape. There is no consent possible from a 10 year old.
Reporting is basically automatic, but again unnecessary in this case. The government social worker who performed the original pregnancy test already filed a report before she took the child to the hospital. The temporary guardian who was getting all the reports was the government. The prosecutors knew about the case hours before any doctor had heard of it.
A pregnant 10 year old is an immutable fact, which is more than a whisper.
