They aren’t on that list due to their low and declining population (for good reason).

New Orleans has a 2025 population of 351,399. New Orleans is currently declining at a rate of -1.78% annually and its population has decreased by -8.31%since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 383,241 in 2020.

What makes it more dangerous for law abiding citizens is that the city is a checkerboard of well to do neighborhoods and urban rat nests.
You can’t drive half a mile to a friend’s house without going through one of those. That’s the reason drivers there are no longer ticketed for running stop signs and red lights.
To put that into perspective: Toronto (with a culture similar to ours) has a homicide rate of 1.73. Tokyo(with a culture different than ours) has a homicide rate of 0.2.

There will be those who will point out there are places in America that have a zero homicide rate, but that is just because they are so small. They will have a zero homicide rate for 9 years, and then a 30 homicide rate. The average over time is always higher than Japan, and almost always higher than Canada.

Canada is not massively different from the USA. It does have more immigrants... Hmmm...

N.O. culture is third world. Literally. FFS, I lived there until 1991 with the exception of college years.

Whatever. I've been to New Orleans several times. Walked through the French Quarter carrying a "big-gulp-sized" hurricane. Never felt unsafe. I guess it's all about whether you are looking for trouble or not.

No, but I definitely think they will shoot someone walking around with a gun at an active shooter circumstance.
Surrounded by women and children? I hope they're good shots and don't just start blasting away and anything that moves.

So you think my two friends, uncle and 73 year old Linda Frickey were looking for trouble in their own houses, riding his bike to his mother’s house for dinner and Linda Frickey getting in her car to go home from work.
You were there for a few days and somehow didn’t get murdered. Lucky you.
Live there, grow up there and guaranteed, 100% chance, you’ll be well acquainted with a murder victim. Everybody that lives there for , say 15 years, knows somebody who has been.

Do you know why and where that is, Walt?
In the USA as a whole. There are better and worse parts of the USA, but the USA as a whole is worse than any other first world country. It is hard to find any part of the USA that is not worse than other first world countries.

I find it amusing (scary, really) that some people with little or no firearms training are here on this forum telling everyone just how and when to use a firearm.

People are killed in their own houses all over the world. Fortunately, it's a rare event, whether you live in New Orleans or San Francisco. Hey, I heard that in San Francisco people break into rich people's houses and beat people with hammers!

Live in fear if you want. I prefer to enjoy life.

Ours is a very large nation with a very large population of 330M+ and a very large cross section of cultures.

Disagreed there. I've lived and visited a lot of countries and states. I'm a big believer in stats. Not general ones, but specific ones. They are a starting point for understanding what's happening in different areas of the nation or the world.

Example, in Michigan, and this seems to follow in most states, the leading cause of death for black males age 15 to 34 is homicide. For white males 15-34 it's accidents followed by suicide.

According to the FBI link, the #1 killer of black males is black males. Likewise, the #1 killer of white males is white males. While the total murders are about the same, the total population of white males outnumbers black males by over 5 to 1. So now the question is "why the differences"?

The racists will say "race" and leave it at that, but there's no such thing as race. It's culture. One's genetics can't be changed...yet LOL...but culture can change although it often takes a lot of time. The bottom link states that homicide, and violence, should be treated like a public health issue. I agree.

Liberals think the solution is to ban guns. MAGAts want to ignore it...probably because their leaders can read stats too and consider it a "black" problem. I advocate better mental health care across the nation.

Multiple interconnected issues contribute to this health crisis. Generational poverty, educational inequities, and systemic barriers create environments where violence becomes more prevalent. Research shows these conditions disproportionately affect Black communities, particularly men.

Neighborhood conditions play a crucial role in health outcomes. Many affected communities face challenges including limited economic opportunities, inadequate housing, and restricted access to essential services. These environmental factors create conditions where violence can proliferate, leading to increased health risks.

Access to health care remains a significant barrier. Mental health services, trauma care, and preventive health programs often prove difficult to obtain in affected communities. This lack of resources leaves many individuals without necessary support for addressing trauma or managing mental health challenges.

A gun in your home increases the family death rate. It makes living in your home more dangerous.
So does owning a car. People who don't ride in or own cars are less likely to die in a car accident. See who that works?

Gun banners like to talk about "gun violence" yet they puff up with numbers with gun suicides. About half of all suicides are with a gun; usually a pistol and one shot. They don't give a shit about the other 25,000 non-gun suicides, but it makes me wonder why they want to ban ARs and high capacity magazines since most deaths are from single shot.

I had no idea Dallas was that bad.
Like most Democrat large cities Dallas has good areas and bad areas. But you can run into a very dangerous person anywhere. Being prepared is a wise thing.

I gave my business partner several handguns over the years. He was out walking the two dogs his daughter left him when she moved. They were Yorkies. He lived near Cedar Springs a gay area of Dallas . He was not gay but walking two Yorkies in that area sure makes you look gay. A rough looking guy that was walking on the other side of the street suddenly started across the street directly towards him. He pull out a .380 I had given him and displayed it. The guy immediately changed direction back to the other side of the road.

Why? If I'm headed close to the Mexico border I bring a pistol. I'm going to the "gunfire" district or other relatively unsafe part of town, I bring a pistol. I'm going out to dinner at a nice restaurant in an upscale part of town? No, I don't need a pistol for that so why bring one? It's common sense.
C'mon!
