The payments to Cohen happened after the election actually. The checks were sent to Trump at the White House and he signed them in the Oval Office.

This is especially true since #TRE45ON was ferociously courting the fundies and alt-right evangelist cohort. No telling whether they would have abandoned him had they known about both the "grab them by the pussy" tape, and the boinking of "lewd women" while his lawful wife was home with a newborn would have influenced many of them, or not. Given history, my guess is not but he and his campaign didn't know that in 2016.

The pay-off was to influence the election. As we see, the deplorably idiotic MAGATs fell for it, and still are.

trump lied about the affair. That was the basis of his defense. It makes perfect sense that Daniels be allowed to prove that there was indeed sex that night. If it takes describing how awful trump is in bed, then so be it.

The fundies are only interested in abortion. Those on the fence who finally had enough after the Comey incident might not have voted for trump. They, like so many kids and non whites would have simply stayed home.

An affair is not a chargeable crime, retard. Nor is an affair justification for felony bookkeeping charges in NY state.
 
They had to know that if they acquitted him they would have to have been sneaked out of the Courthouse because the leftist marauders would murder them.
