Theology Question

Explain what morality has to do with the agnostic viewpoint.

Morality has to do with what decisions we make and how we live.
What idea of God do you have, what properties does it have?

Those properties you attribute are your responsibility. You give God the property of not being knowable yet you believe there is a God there.

You choose to be indecisive.

So...in your (you will excuse the expression) mind...a person who chooses to blindly guess there is a GOD and a person who chooses to blindly guess there are no gods...are both being decisive...

...but a person who chooses not to blindly guess in either direction is being indecisive.

You are an asshole, BP. You should be ashamed of reasoning with that much in the way of defects.

You choose to be indecisive.

One other thing...

...you are a "believer."

You either "believe" there are no gods...or you "believe" it is more likely there that are no gods than that there is at least one god.

Both those "beliefs" are nothing but blind guesses.

And you have the audacity to suppose you are being decisive because of a blind guess. You are not.

Morality has to do with what decisions we make and how we live.

No, try again. You are just changing the Dictionary definition of morality to make your assertion work. Morality has to do with right conduct, right behavior.

Explain why is is wrong behavior, bad conduct to take the agnostic viewpoint.

"Morality", definition, Cambridge Dictionary:

a set of personal or social standards for good or bad behavior and character:

the quality of being right, honest, or acceptable:

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/morality

I do not agree with the premise of the thread that happiness is the goal of life, the be all end all of it. Happiness is a state of temporary euphoria, it doesn't seem biologically possible to be in a state of euphoria all the time, and it's not clear to me it would even be healthy.

That is not the premise of the thread.

Yes it is, did you forget what you wrote?

Theology question:

If God is all powerful, why can God not make everyone happy?

Agnosticism is just moral indecision.
That doesn't make sense.
Explain what morality has to do with the agnostic viewpoint.
Morality has to do with what decisions we make and how we live.
What idea of God do you have, what properties does it have?

Those properties you attribute are your responsibility. You give God the property of not being knowable yet you believe there is a God there.
Agreed morality has to do with how we think (decisionmaking) and how we live, but you failed to answer the question: Why is agnosticism morally indecisive? Do you think atheism and theism are morally decisive or indecisive?

Morality is relative. Pedo Don, Slick Willie and their buddy Jeffrey had no problem having sex with 15-17 year olds. Both Pedo Don and Bernie Madoff had no problem ripping people off of their money. Ms. Hillary had no moral problems violating classified material protocols. The Romans laid unwanted or defective infants on a hillside to die of exposure. All of those actions are moral or immoral relative to one's belief system.

That said, as Cypress and I have discussed before, there are some morals that are conducive to a tribe/village of humans living together and there are morals that will cause the tribal/village bonds to fall apart. Most involve harm by one group of people against another, such as rape, murder and theft. That said, there is no universal standard for morality. Morality is dependent up on the goal; to keep a group of people working together in harmony or to break them apart.

Being able to accept the limits to our knowledge seems to be the primary requirement for the agnostic approach.

I don't know what magic is. Nor ESP. But I have communicated with a friend without aid of a telephone and solely through mind.
That's just nuts.

I don't see how you can maintain a tone of mockery about religious beliefs, while claiming to have powers of telepathic communication.
It certainly is a non sequitur. Notice how she quickly backed away from the claim without further explaination.

To reiterate: there is no valid evidence of magic, ESP, ghosts or other supernatural phenomena.

Yeah, I was told by Doc Dutch that he doesn't do "text walls" either.

Now, granted this guy's text wall was just a bunch of copy-paste trash, but that's not unlike your non-stop listing of references and names of philosophers. So it's not dramatically different from your usual level of "discussion".

If God is all powerful, why can God not make everyone happy? If God created the entire universe, why not create a utopia?

If God cannot make everyone happy, God is not all powerful.
If God can make everyone happy and does not, God is cruel and petty.

Solution, God is not all powerful and cannot make everyone happy.

Even God has limits to power.

Tell me are you a parent?

Does a good parent provide their children every possible thing in life? Or does a good parent try to teach their children responsibility, how to deal with failure, and generally prepare them for the realities of life?

Agreed, at least not without tech such as brain-wave analyzer.

That's not very ecumenical of you. You are going to be accused of hate against Christians if you question the veracity of the Bible.

It was once suggested by a poster on here that I was an antisemite because I questioned the theology of the Old Testament God.

You have to be careful on this forum. You step on people's toes so easily, even when you don't mean to.

Agreed. Also, note he just cut'n'pasted a wall of text without explanation. A second grader can do that.

This is one reason I enjoy asking members if they can explain something in their own words. Not that most cannot.
