Democrats Smoke and Mirrors – They wont stop the war

How do you suggest the Democrats end the war in Iraq?

Remember they dont have 60 votes in the Senate.

I just don't get what they are so damned worried about if they really did want to end this war in congress. They have the backing of the American people to end this war. No 'talk' from the Republicans is going to hurt you in any serious manner.

There's no doubt, that this isn't a "profiles in courage" moment for many Dems.

I still ask, why are republicans covering for Bush? What is it about Mr. 29% approval ratings, that a dozen or so GOP senators can't sign on for funding with withdrawl timetables?

Also, to people who are worried about Dem's losing power if we cut-off funding:

If you don't cut off this war soon, people are going to become pissed with the Dem's anyways, like I already am. Hell, call me a trendsetter...

Well there is a radical idea; that the democrats learn how to stand up for themselves and fight. I admit I did not think of that one. Maybe because I haven't seen it since the day the towers went down and took democratic backbone with it. But I'd surely love to see it rise again.

I'm so angry I'm seeing double .. so if I'm misspelling and fucking up words you'll have to excuse me.

Any way they can! If it means cutting off funds to force a withdrawal, then do it. Republicans can mock you and call you names all they want, but the American people who want us out of Iraq will thank you! The Republicans have already lost all merit and no one really gives a damn what they have to say. Which is why I'm after the Dems on this, because they are the ones that are going to have to do something.

Yeah, no $hit Chap. You're economic butt buddy topper is attacking me on another thread because I said that I no longer will hold my nose and vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, I will go third party, something I never thought I'd do after Bush.

But, I will not be lectured to by any fvcking republican voter who enabled this war to begin with, on the subject.

And in fact, I resent it. I am infuriated by it.

Bac can talk, you can't.

I think that's where I've been headed for quite some time now. At this point, I'm either voting for Kucinich or voting third party. At this stage I'm not impress with many of the nominees

First, get these weak ass cowards a history book ...

In December 1970, Congress reacted to the U.S. invasion of Cambodia by passing the landmark Cooper-Church amendment to the Foreign Military Sales Bill. The amendment, named for and sponsored by Sens. John Sherman Cooper (R-Kentucky) and Frank Church (D-Idaho), prohibited the use of any funds already appropriated for military spending on the introduction of additional U.S. troops into Cambodia. While President Nixon denounced Cooper-Church as harming the war effort, he failed to veto it. Today, the Cooper-Church amendment is regarded as the first congressional action taken limiting presidential powers during a war.

Following Cooper-Church, and even after the Paris cease-fire agreement, Congress literally dropped the hammer on the Vietnam War with its passage in 1973 of a joint resolution (H.J.Res. 636) prohibiting any further appropriation or expenditure of any funds for any "combat in or over or from the shores of North Vietnam, South Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia."

STOP FUNDING IT

There are three common threads to wars that are eventually ended by the U.S. Congress.

First, a majority of the public wants the war ended.

Second, the President of the United States believes the war can ultimately be won.

And third, Congress ends up having to cut off further funding for the war to end it.

STOP FUNDING IT

Darla - the thing you are forgetting here is that just because one voted for bush doesn't make them a war monger. The guy promised to be a fiscal conservatives and cut taxes. he lied. In 2004 the democrats put up john kerry and as much as i didnt like bush i cant stand kerry. dont forget i live in MA. In 06 i voted zero republicans.

So you can step down off your soapbox about who can and cant criticize the democrats smoke and mirrors.

There was a time before bush that republicans where the responsible ones.

You voted for him again in 04, after already knowing for sure what he was, and you think I need to get off MY soapbox? No way Chap, I mean every word I said. That weakass "at least he wasn't Kerry" shit is laughable now.

Yeah, I voted third party despite Dixie's request that I be a bitch and vote for someone I dislike because he has a better chance at winning. Fuck that!

Chapper,

You can't run away from your record. Less than a year ago, you were cheering on war hawk Joe Lieberman to victory, while dissing the eloquent anti-war candiates Ned Lamont, and Jim Webb.

In short, your crocodile tears about wanting the war to end, overfloweth the cup.

So I guess I cant ever criticize broken campaign promises from democrats then huh.

Sorry doesn't work that way in America.

Smoke and mirrors. Dems will not now or ever end the war in Iraq. in fact the signed on for funding building permanent bases that will house 30K plus of solders for the next 50years. Deal with the truth.
