John Bolton stuns a British audience with announcement he WILL run for POTUS in 2024

He should have been Biden's VP, but they needed to win S.Carolina I suppose.

As you keep saying about Harris, Buttigieg would have been a natural to take over for Biden.

Strategically, the best way for the Democrats to win is for Biden to resign some time after this month and before December to give Harris a year as POTUS and to run as an incumbent. Mayor Pete would be a good VP.

There's a lot of time between now and the next election. Right now the best thing for Democrats to do is sit back and watch Republicans eat their own.

I don't think DeSantis is as strong as people think on the national stage. I really don't see Harris as the answer for Democrats. I believe you are correct about what is best for her, but not necessarily the party. If the nation had a year or so to get used to her, she might do well in a re election bid.

Time will tell. My guess is that Biden will stick out his full term and 2024, less than a year from now, will become a Free-for-All election like 2000 and 2016 where the previous President was a Democrat and a Republican won.

I think there are a few less moving pieces next time around. Independents would still vote for Biden. The ones who hated Hillary, and were pissed about Bernie. I think the nation is sick of reality show elections, so Biden's calm demeanor might still be something that is marketable.

A lot will depend upon the state of the economy, and what the infrastructure looks like after 2 years of construction.

Biden did the 'right' thing in '16 because it was supposedly Hillary's 'turn'.

That was a horrible move, but hindsight is hindsight. Nobody thought the joker trump would get as far as he did.

You are making two very large assumptions: that an 82-year-old Biden wants to be up for election in NOV24 and that Independents will vote for an 82-year-old thinking he'll be a good President until he's 86 years old.

LOL. Isn't that what speculation is about? Making assumptions. Right now Biden is leaning toward running. If he does, he won't have any challengers. Independents will have to choose between a mini MAGA moron, and old man who might not finish his term. Which is basically the ploy that you think might work best in the next year.

I don't really believe that his age and cognitive function (unless he's getting as bad as Reagan) are an issue, but 2 years is an awful long time at that age.

Independents are not interested in an anti abortion, anti gay, anti black history politician. That's who they get no matter which Republican runs.

Independents feel that neither party represents them; they tend to vote for the challenger or whichever candidate weakens the stronger party. This is why the House will probably flip back to Democrat but the WH will go to a Republican.

Look at the numbers.

And in 2 years, we'll see how Independents feel about who does and does not represent them.

Again...an anti abortion, anti gay, anti black history candidate does not represent the majority of Independents.

Many of those we see recently are people who never voted before trump, and will never vote again unless trump is running. I've never been anything but an Independent not because I feel nobody represents me.

I refuse to let either party believe they automatically have my vote.

We can revisit this in 1 1/2 years and take the temperature of the nation. This thread is supposed to be about the joke Bolton supposedly running for POTUS.

We can both agree that he won't last long, but I hope long enough to make trump's head explode.

Agreed.

Agreed Bolton won't last long but I think Trump will have too many other problems to worry about Bolton.

I never believed that trump would 'actually' run again. He makes tons of money by pretending to be a candidate.

Notwithstanding the myriad legal issues that may or may not come to fruition, the shine has worn off of trump. I think the midterms proved that, and now he's like one of those silent movie stars who cling to decades old stardom as they fade into obscurity.

One thing is for certain...the next election cycle will not be boring.

Especially with a House majority who believes in the Big Lie.

It appears the House majority is trying to side-step away from the Big Lie, even though there is a minority of loudmouthed idiots who keep pushing it.

I'm not sure who is still seated, but well more than 50% of House Republicans voted against certifying the election.

I could see this group opting for phantom electors in '24. Thankfully, there might be 50 or so who would vote with Democrats.

How many of those 111 are still pushing the Big Lie two years later?

It was closer to 150, but I'm not sure how many are still seated?

Quite a few who ran, did so supporting the Big Lie. I don't know how many incumbents lost seats?

The Speaker fiasco was the truth-teller. Who was for Kevin and who wasn't?

The nutjobs are moving further right than DT himself. Remember how he was booed for suggesting vaccinations?

Why would Bolton's announcement stun anyone, particularly Brits? Bolton was never highly thought of and his rep has not gathered esteem over the years. He is a base PNACer who was on the ground floor of the wealthy and corportions taking over the country.

LOL. I forgot about that. He didn't want to say it, but I'm sure he was forced to by the same people who forced him to put out the 'we love you' video on Jan. 6.

90% of Republicans supported McCarthy, but many of them (including him) voted 'No' on election certification.

Trump is a populist. He does whatever he thinks will make and keep him popular. He miscalculated with the vaccines. Have you ever watched an entire rally of him speaking? He's very adept at reading a crowd and feeding them what they want and dropping to move on when he says something they don't like.
