lol... I said I would try... just don't expect perfection... and of course understand that there will be some smart ass replies.... because that is part of what I do.

Well as I said there are very very few people here I feel hostility towards, so...the few I do I usually ignore. I am not into privileging being nice over my beliefs. Honestly, that's a problem for me in particular. I just did a whole lecture about women though so I will leave it there. Let me just say that I strongly resist any attempt to place too much stock on being nice. Though I believe I often am nice.

Anyone who takes the ration of cheap shit I dished about Lovey Howell, then changes his avatar to Lovey Howell? That's an ace player as far as I'm concerned. It's what makes this place the best cyber-party around. :)

These and so many more are all passionate subjects. People should NOT be nice about them all of the time because that privileges manners over people. Manners aren't that important. People are.

If anyone has the right to retort tit for tat it would be you and Rana (hope she's ok BTW). I hate to have to say that (but it's the truth) because a lot of the time the people who use degrading comments toward you guys are people I would agree with on about 60% of their political issues. But when they start that I just can't bring myself to join the thread. I've seen them say some nasty, nasty stuff.

As to passion, I do agree that for a lot of folks politics is very passionate for them. I used to discuss with much more passion than I do now and can definitely see where both sides are coming from. And that is one of the great things I have learned from the old FP.com and this site (I think there was one other but can't think of the name), that is how folks who think differently than I do have come to think that way. Now when my boy asks me why someone has a different stance on some political issue than I or his mom do I can answer with something other than, "because they're stupid," which is a lot of what I heard when I was a youngster....not from my parents but from many adults that talked politics.

Rana is great she is on vacation! She will return. Thanks for your words, I appreciate them.

I think passion is good, I do not like to have ongoing bad blood with someone I like which has happened frequently for some reason here? But just with one person. I don't know why it always happens with us but it does. Other than that and the things you mention which do bother me, and I am hostile about, I don't have hostility towards anyone here. Even if they think I do, it's very rare. I think the exceptions are obvious. In fact they're may be only one when I really think about it. There are one or two more who I strongly dislike but hostile? I don't think so.

You're a very nice poster, and it's hard to imagine anyone having a problem with you IMO.

Wait just a minute here, There are two parts to this discussion. I like to call it pre 7-10, and post 7-10.....In fact if you search all of the threads I am in, You'll find that after that date NOTHING has been baiting, or trollish, from me anyway.

Based on the responses I got from my pleas for a more civil discourse, I see that it is futile.

The discussion got buried beneath the mountainous pile of invective and vulgarity that so many here can't seem to function without.

I will never understand why it is that some people can't complete a sentence unless it is filled with one vulgarity after another.
